Just curious. I tried acquiring a domain name for $2k but denied miserably... Domain is really worth acquiring though guess $10k to $15k will settle it.

Most expensive was 4.000 USD - 2 years ago, now is worth like 20.000 USD and I consider that in another 2 years can be 40.000, all depends on the trends.
But yes if you try to buy a site from a bidding system you can be fucked very easy.

7$, I don't like buying 'famous' domain names as much as 'PR1-2-3-4' sites.

You buy new domain, build it from 0 to success and make money.

there are situations like the domain has a well reputed version on a .net and you are acquiring the .com version of it. Since people are commonly typing http://site.com it will show my site and not the .net original site. Original site has over 1 Million monthly traffic and even 10% of it of mistyped traffic will be enough to slowly get your ROI...

    £12, to renew a .me

99% of the world you do in IM you do not need a catchy name, they are churn and burn.

I think my highest price for JUST a domain was $500 or so, I prefer to choose my own domain and build it up myself. But if I was in your position I would definitely have went for it as well, most people automatically think .com opposed to .net.

Do you think the owner of the .net (original site) will slap me with some legal actions if I started building up same thing his website offering on a .com?

$7,000 last year for a nice short EMD that I built into a business.
You have to watch with those selling domains, especially since I read it's through a broker.
Often they aren't looking to sell unless someone overpays a stupid amount, which sounds like is what they want.
THey have high hopes of some stupid company coming along and paying a ridiculous amount.
Only time you'll get a deal is if someone really wants to sell and/or doesnt really know how to get the word out.
My domain I bought, I think was a fair price, but guy wasn't even really looking to sell. I really wanted it and finally
came down low enoug I bought it. Coincidentally sold another site a few days earlier for $5,000, so it was only a small
    difference I had to pay.
