The first thing I would ask you is 'how many websites have you got on the front page'? Show me your portfolio and client testimonials. I couldn't care about what someone knows. I just want to see results.

That's just me with my small business head on. I do have a small brick and mortar business and I get an email a day for SEO and 2 to 3 calls a week. Drives me frigging nuts LOL

    Ant1975,

Dotcomdesigns had hit the nail on the head. Internet marketing, SEO, social media marketing and other aspects of inbound marketing are in their infancy and a strong portfolio is far more powerful than any kind of certification. Of course it helps to have some kind of educational background but I have seen people land six figure salaries with nothing more than a community college degree and a strong portfolio of online marketing work under their belts. If you can show a business owner that you know what you're talking about and that you have helped other businesses achieve results, they will sign up.

Also, you can fake it until you make it.

FYI - check out this list of college dropout billionaires

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_college_dropout_billionaires

Of course these guy's stories are not typical but it proves that you can make something out of nothing if you are passionate enough and make some good choices.

    Hope that helps,

    Shawn

If you really know PPC, you can make you entire living on that alone.

The bottom line is: Can you achieve and prove consistent results in organic ranking, traffic flow and conversion. If you can show you help businesses make real money, then bits of paper or certificates from a college matter squat!

Well you seem to have a well rounded knowledge of being a local internet marketing consultant. As long as you are able to answer any of your customers questions without problems. You should be good to go.

I would start off with all of that. Try to get clients (which is pretty hard nowadays) in almost any niche and see which works best for you in terms of $$$
