I've done some research online and there doesn't seem to be any rule about this. I'd like to know from people that have experience. How many people can you unfollow each day without risking losing your account? If an account has been built up over several years, is it possible to follow/unfollow 1,000 accounts per day?

I have an account that's fairly old, fairly large following that has been following 700 - 750 and unfollowing 700 - 750 every day. So 1400 - 1500 actions. Not a single issue, even running it off my home IP, no proxy.

If you want to push the envelope with your account do it in intervals. So try 500 & 500, then 600 & 600, etc. Until you hit where you want to be and stay there.

yea, no hard limits for unfollowing

i have an aged acc from 2009 with 142k followers, i unfollowed all those who didn't follow me back a few months ago, that was around 25k, i unfollowed around 3k/day until there were no more left, i haven't experienced a single issue

i have 100 accs, a few months old, i follow and unfollow 1k daily since a few months now, i can't say for sure, that it is safe or no, but none of those accs got suspended, the worst thing that could happen is a password reset request, although aggressive follow churn is clearly against the TOS

    "What is aggressive follow churn?

If you decide to follow someone and then change your mind later, you can just visit the person's profile page and unfollow them. Aggressive follow churn is when an account repeatedly follows and then unfollows a large number of users. This may be done to get lots of people to notice them, to circumvent a Twitter limit, or to change their follower-to-following ratio. These behaviors negatively impact the Twitter experience for other users, are common spam tactics, and may lead to account suspension."

so it's practically for you to decide, if you're willing to take the risk or no

I've been following 500 and unfollowing about 200 lately. I've moved it up to about 500 each. So far no problems, but I've been a little leery about it.

I have done some testing with an account of a few months old
was unfollowing 900 to 1000 each day during several days
    account had no issue
note that i unfollowed people not following back after 3 days
but take it with a grain of salt as it was just a one week test (maybe twitter would ban me after 1 month, who knows?)

    earlier, i reached a 1200+ unfollowed in a day
so i am not sure there is a really 1k limit/day

there isn't any hard limit on unfollowing as i mentioned above, you might as well unfollow all your followers at once, you can do that, it's another question how wise it is :)

here you can find all the hard limits which is set by twitter, you won't find any limit for unfollowing:

OP was asking about more like a safe limit, which i guess varies by account size and age

It's unlimited for everyone. I have an account that I unfollow 3k+ on every few days. My largest page is 165k and I unfollowed 70k before in one day.

i dont get why people want 400 accounts on follow liker these days, just 3 normal twitter accounts would have more reach than 400 spam accounts, its madness..reach doesnt mean you need x amount of followers, its about quality, the better quality the further you reach

I have under 20 accounts on FL. But that's so true & I agree whole heartedly. I see people making 400 pages just to retweet themselves and spam links. 400 pages with 150 followers each? that might get banned in no time? or 20 pages growing by 150 followers a daily. For an infinite amount of days as long as you play it safe and twitter is still a thing

I mess around with these limits pretty often. I have a script currently running for 17 accts. I also have a bulk unfollow script that I use to clean up the number of people being followed. I've unfollowed 5k in a day before on an acct with ~8000 followers without any problems. It's the following that you need to be careful with. Twitter doesn't seem to care about unfollowing for some reason.

i once accidentally unfollowed more than 40,000 followers within few hours. nothing happened. my account is pretty old, not that old but still not very new. made it in 2014. i used this website

    http://twoolbox.com/delete-following/connect.php?hl=en

    it uses twitter's API.
