I own a very successful blog with many affiliate links, most of them to shareAsale affiliate programs.
It's going very well but I had a feeling that my site generates much more sales than what I get credit for.
So a while ago I asked my subscribers to give me the order numbers of stuff they bought after clicking the ads in my site and as it turns out, only about half of the sales were tracked and got me a commission.
I asked shareAsale about it but the only thing they can do, is contact the store and ask them why a particular order was not tracked. However, if the store itself is deliberately disregarding tracks, they of course won't admit it and the result is that I (we!) get only a fraction of the total credit we deserve!

Do you think we can do something about it?

welcome to the shady world of affiliate marketing, you can't do much against it, if you want to earn your 50% loss back, you either double your traffic - you double the loss too though lol - or choose other products to promote where there's not that much shaving, or even make your own product and promote that

there's nothing you can do if they deny the sales and aren't willing to credit you, even if you have proof, they don't care, because they're sure, you won't go to a court with this, that's a shady business practice unfortunately which they can easily get away with

    Bad news for me :(
Perhaps there is an affiliate network that does better order tracking than shareAsale?

well, i don't know shareasale, so i can't speak for them, but you just said, that they weren't the ones who were at fault, but the merchants/vendors, so maybe it's enough to switch products/vendors or you can always try clickbank, amazon

It is the affiliate network's job to make sure that the vendors aren't scamming the affiliates. Or so I thought...
Anyway, Amazon is no good for me becuase they don't work in my country. I will try clickbank.

That's why you should stick to reputable programs with a proven track record, i.e. clickbank and amazon!

In the affiliate world you always want to test multiple offers that are similar. The reason for this is because one offer may give you better results than the other.

Or if you have the time and resource, then make your own offer.

    mancar487,
clickbank doesn't have any of the products I promote. Amazon doesn't work in my country.
Apparently shareAsale is the largest affiliate network in the world. Most of the vendors I advertise work exclusively with shareAsale.
So I'm "attached to another object by an incline plane wrapped helically around an axis"
Thanks for the help anyways guys!

Sorry to hear about it. But you cant do anything. How do you 100% sure your subscriber telling the truth ? They are in your list & they are getting good information/ advice from you, so they may think if I tell him double of my orders he will be happy.

I dont know about shareAsale. My opinion is same to mancar487 & Paper-Boy. Try Clickbank & Amazon

Where are you from ? You are only getting your local traffic ? If you have Tire 1 Traffic you can Promote Amazon. You can Open US/UK/AU Amazon Associates any time.

I'd change the CPA provider if there's similar products of course.
Creating your own product is the best you can do but it takes effort and time.

When you say 'make your own product', do you mean like a self help DVD? It's not really my thing. I'm a techie guy, I like electronics... most of my products are electronic gadgets, cell phones, tablets etc. There are some good stores that sale those products like geekbuying for example, almost all of them use shareAsale exclusively.

I can't be 100% sure that all my subscribers are telling the truth, nor can I be certain that they didn't click some other advertisement of another affiliate between the time they read my article and the time they decided to go for it with the purchase!
However, I can't believe those explanations account for 50% of the sales.

Yes, you can use Amazon in your country! (promote along with buy2usa service).
Try DealExtreme - they listed on Shareasale but have their own program too )

From running an affiliate program, I know that many sales don't get credited because the cookies get deleted or overwritten. What we used to do is give our affiliates their own site with our products on them. That way, there was no way the tracking could get overwritten. But, most programs don't want to do something like this. Nor, do they know how to.

Even so, 50% is not acceptable. There sounds like there is something wrong there. It definitely could be the vendor.

I had a similar issue with a thrid party biller a few years back. They took proud that they alsways paid affiliates and there was no shaving. After I confronted them with one of their shady merchants, they answered back, they have no influence over what their merchant does. The merchant is their customer and they provide a service for fees to him - not to the affiliate.
