I don't want to pay for hosting/domain name because of no traffic.

Do you depend on companies like YouTube, facebook,eBay to promote your products instead of making your own site? Or do you use other landing pages and sites after getting traffic to click on a link.

Reason I ask because I have no idea whether or not investing time into a homepage, blogs, and more is going to pay off. Existing traffic or trying to gain followers from an existing base of users seems safer to me.
    What do you guys think?
Revolving a website around a personal product could work or a product that is already being bought by people just that I'm not sure if product with good sales is a good representation of people I can market to who will actually buy..
starting from scratch is a big leap for me, do I have to worry so much about traffic when quality traffic is all that matters I think? Where do you find people willing to buy when getting to the point of having something worth selling is hard enough?
I'm not looking for random testing but targeted spending is what I'm looking for. Am I on the right track to digital marketing and if so, is the site the first step for long term stability or is it always going to be changing like evolving? I'm thinking there's a long term website/blog/ and then there's always something new coming

If I understand you correct you don't want to invest in hosting because you don't have traffic? You can use web2.0 or free hosting with free domain BUT when your traffic increase a little, you will have to get a paid hosting because the free one supports 5-10 users online MAX :)
