I've starting my link building myself, my website is 4 years old and has 550 referring domains according to majestic. I've been using different seo firms since the site launched, they've never given us results and judging by the data they haven't been doing a lot.

in the past year it says we've gained 20 - 40 referring domains each month, most months closer to 20, in December i started and built 80 new referring domains links through out the month.

i want to start building as many links as possible of decent quality without raising flags in google

would it be ok for me to build
    roughly
    200 links in January
    300 links in February
    400 links in March
    500 links in April
    and so on.

would i be risking getting sand boxed?
    can i build more links every month e.g. 200 - 400 - 600?
should i stop being a pussy and build 500 links this month and improve from there?

i'm playing catchup with the competition who build about 200 links a month and are 3000 referring domains in front.

As this site brings me most my sales i can't risk it disappearing for a couple weeks or worse!

ecommerce business is cruel -> wins the website with lowest prices not with the most backlinks (if you are on the page G page where your competitor is)

but, yes keep building backlinks! I would say, if this is your main business, build 10 backlinks every working day if you do that manually... will take you up to 2 hours.

but you need some help - search around bhw ;)

    good luck, really :)

As nonin said, eCommerce sites are kinda hard with SEO.

But anyway, with 4 years website, you can surely make that amount of backlinks, just make sure these are high PR and quality ;)

I think you would be safe to build that many backlinks. It's important to stay consistent with it and remember to ping, bookmark and RSS feed your backlinks. This way you can ensure your links get indexed.

Can't hurt to keep building as many back-links as you can, the more the better. I try to build as much as I can, and it can be time consuming sometimes, but I believe it's worth it.

I just saw this post, and joined the forum! In the E-Commerce World, price is everything and being in the top 5 positions on Google Search for your keywords is absolutely critical for success. Link building will get you there, but only if you do it wisely, and use relevant and good PR backlinks. I started building a few months ago, and I have about 700 links coming from forums and message boards directly related to my website if anyone wants to see it. Right now after a few months we are finally beginning to rank on certain keywords and traffic is building month over month. Lots of work, but it certainly pays off over time.

Actually building more links are not important you can even build less from what you are building now but just concentrate on quality. Build links from high authorative sites which matters a lot . Hope it helps

Is 10 back links daily is sufficient? I am building 100 to 150 back links daily, but my keyword is not getting up. What to do?

    hi all

i am new to BHW but find the posts and information great! Very interesting thread as we are in exactly the same positions, 4 year old ecommerce site with about 1200 links, we have always "played by the rules" for google and are currently on page 8 for our most important keyword! Getting a bit sick of it to be honest so will be building/purchasing links from here to get us to number 1! My question is therefore similar, how many links can you "safely" build/buy in a month considering how many we have already etc? I will vary anchor terms to mix it up to keep it natural but any advice is appreciated. FYI our site is (search poundseller) any tips for SEO most welcome, thanks guys. Matt

Quality is way more important then quanitiy. If I were you Id focus on building a good PBN, and using that with a combination of social signals to grow my rankings. From all my tests, and projects, having strong high quality backlinks and social signals are the 2 biggest factors right now in SEO.

For example: Pick 1 page on your site, the keywords you want to target and start there. Send some social signals, and add a few backlinks in your PBN, wait a couple weeks and see where your rankings are. Rinse, wash and repeat until you get the rankings you want.

You can make adjustments to the number of links you build in the PBN and the amount of social signals until you have it down to a science.

Instead of building many links, try to get the ones that actually add value. Though, these links usually need to be bought.
