kinda confused with your question. i had no idea u can make an "external partition" but im pretty sure u can put as much as ur computer can hold like by sata cables and externals with usb's and u can always buy an extra sata card and add more theres plenty of options

What is your budget? How much space do you need? You can throw as many as you have SATA ports on a desktop computer, or if you have the budget get SCSI attached storage with like 24 slots. Check out the Dell powervaults.

By using sata port multipliers, you can theoretically connect 15 hard disks per SATA port on your motherboard. So if you've got 6 SATA ports, you can connect 90(!) hard disks to your system.

    Just depends on your setup.

For external hard drives, you could theoretically have 26 (one for every letter in the Alphabet) unless you have an internal and a CD or DVD drive.

If you have an internal HD with a CD/DVD drive, than you could theoretically have 24, though that would require alot of USB slots (though there are USB addons). Not sure about the specifications of it though, as in if a computer could support all of them unless you have a badass power supply.

Does anybody know if you could assign a number to a hard drive? If thats the case than it could be unlimited.

That is all in my theory, however.
