I am currently working on my first Instagram account, doing everything manually just to get a feel for how Instagram works. Its getting close to the point where I am gonna need to start unfollowing some of my followers soon and I am just wondering how many I should expect to lose when I do this. Obviously its going to be different for everyone depending on engagement and content, but just a rough idea would be good. I post what I consider high quality content (it gets reposted by bigger accounts a lot) and my engagement is around 15%.

    Thanks

I would say don't unfollow them immediately. Take your time and unfollow them after 10-15 days from the day you follow them.. I do that and i lose about 20 followers after unfollowing 200-300.

If you wait 15 days untill you start to unfollow you won't get anywhere, considering you also need 7-10 days to unfollow 7k people....i was loosing about 20-50 people when unfollowing 7k people, now i don't loose followers anymore, but my accounts are a little bigger.Just keep content consistent, try 4 pictures per day and you won't loose many followers.

20 or 30 is not too bad. Hopefully I have similar numbers. Thanks!

Ok cool thanks for the info. My account is only a month old so I will probably take it slow to start.

This depends on your niche obviously, but you will probably lose followers the first time you start unfollowing, but the next time you should start having your organic follows > your unfollows.

Basically at some point your account should grow by itself, and the number of organic followers you'll get every day should outmatch the number of people who unfollow you. So at some point you'll never have a negative day again, whether you're following or unfollowing.
