I'm going to build my own PBN and I wonder how many domains will I need for it? I know you will probably say the more, the better, but I have just a few money websites and I would also prefer not to go with the C-class IP hosting providers (because I think Google keeps an eye on them). Instead of that I have 6 shared hosting accounts, but I'll probably need to buy more or use some web 2.0 properties. Also, my budget is limited now, so I need to keep the costs to minimum.

So how many domains would you recommend? How many domains does your PBN have?

I think I'll need at least 20 domains, as when you're building links, you should use 10 different anchor texts for your links. And if I'm targeting 1 keyword, from 20 links 2 of them will be the money keyword. But I'll probably need more, won't I? However, I cannot afford to register and pay hosting for 30 or 40 domains now. :(

I would say it depends very much on how hard your keyword is to rank, the harder the more you need!

I have 40 running at the moment for 3 money sites... it's still not sufficient.

If you have powerfull domains, then 10 is good for start up. its all depend on quality not quantity.

How/where are you hosting your 40 domains? Are you using a C-class IP hosting provider?

I would not exceed 50 PBN sites in a network, but then again this is just my opinion.

Setting up 5 to 10 PBN for a money site is good for a start.. If the competition of the kw is higher then you should go with atleast 10/single site to diversify.. If the PBN is good TLD then it will be much better..

Won't the affordability depend greatly on the cost of each domain you buy? If you are picking up expired domains for reg fee then 30-40 is going to be more affordable than if you are paying for each one at auction. So I'd look at how you source your domains first and foremost.

Also look for the web 2.0 sites that allow you to host your own domain for free. Tumblr and Blogger definitely allow this (although I don't personally like the idea of using a Google product) - you can host at least one PBN site per money site on each platform to save on hosting costs.

Then you can also find hosting providers that are relatively cheap that will give you a free domain for as long as you stay with them - another good way to lessen the costs of a PBN.

Without at least 500-1k don't even start going into pbn's.

Well said.

@and5rey I suggest you wait until you have saved up enough money before attempting to build a PBN. If you start now and the number of sites in your network turn out to be less than you need, your sites won't rank and you won't make any money.

Indeed, you need to make sure you have enough money to built your PBN. I have been using lot's of different hosts, I found a very very large list http://www.cclogic.com/forum/forum/online-payment-methods-and-e-commerce-in-general/e-commerce-in-general/63381-a-list-of-great-hosting-companies-for-your-next-website-server-or-vps-hosting. Just started from the beginning and down.

How many you need depends on niche and keyword competition as well as the quality of the content you put in your pbn's and how "natural" they look, for instance if your only linking out to your own money site and not any autority sites within your niche it might look a bit strange in the eyes of G, also dont forget you onpage optimzation of each of these pbn's as internal linking is very important in the serps, internal links counts as much as any external link.
and for Gods sake do NOT interlink your indvidual pbn's

start with 10 and slowly increasing it.
You need to learn the rope of PBN is not as easy as you can think.

Require time and effort.

If you need more then 10 links to rank you can always buy links from PBN seller first and then reinvest to build more PBN over time.

I think the whole 10 PBN thing works if the domains are really quality ones. If they are weaker then you need a lot more. Ofc depends of competition.

Thank you all for your replies. Now my budget is below $500, so I will not be building my own PBN yet.

"my budget is below $500 so not starting yet..." why not? I dont do PBNs, i am looking into learning about them....why not start with one, 3, 5 or whatever? why wait until you can buy like 20 at once?
