I agree with you. Quality always matters more than quantity, especially for a new site. Building a few strong, relevant links while improving content and traffic growth is a much safer long-term strategy than chasing a fixed monthly number. Natural growth usually gives better results and reduces risk.

Every website is different. Analyze your competitors' backlink growth and build at a similar pace while maintaining high quality.
 
Depend if are quality ones or not as most are low value ..... but if the quality are good and have real traffic then no issue you can get them unlimited

For me it would be a slow and steady approach. I dont run SEO myself but my friend with an agency usually starts new sites with 10-20 high quality backlinks per month in the beginning. Then slowly ramps it up as the domain gets more authority.

Rushing too many links early often looks unnatural and can hurt more than help. Quality over quantity is key.

Relevance and link quality matter much more than hitting a specific monthly number,. Also keep the anchor text varied and avoid sudden of low-quality links
 
Honestly, I wouldn’t worry too much about hitting a specific backlink number every month. For a new site, I would start with a few good, relevant links and slowly scale up as the site grows. 5–10 useful links can be better than 50 random ones just for the sake of numbers. Basically, I’d rather build links naturally than make Google wonder why a brand-new site suddenly became everyone’s best friend.

For a new website, would you recommend starting with a few high-quality backlinks or building them gradually over time?
 
I’d focus more on link quality and relevance than a fixed number. Even 5–10 good backlinks a month can be enough for a new site.
 
start slow man. around 5 to 10 solid, niche relevant links for the first 2-3 months is more than enough. ramping up too fast on a brand new domain is just asking for a sandbox extension or manual review.
