Hi, I'm starting out a full business model and intend to put in some serious daily work into it until it blossoms into a fully fledged cash machine. How long does it take to reach the first page out of 1.6 million results.

And PLEASE i'm really new to seo and all that. I've been reading a lot but I still feel like I don't have a solid grasp of what I need to do exactly. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

It depends if the 1.6 million results are your real competitors or not.

    find out by doing this

type in the keyphrase you wan to rank with quotes >> "keyphrase" if the results are less then 70,000 it will be pretty easy
    use also these commands.

intitle:"keyphrase" - this will show you how much potential competitors have put the exact keyphrase as their title.
inurl:"keyphrase" - this will show you how much potential competitors use domains/urls the keyphrase

    30K competitors mate.

less than 450 competitors with the domain name. Any tips?

I'm thinking if I go all out I might be able to front page in about 2 weeks. Is this reasonable? If I can do that then I'm set for a long time.

Depends on your seo skill level really. You mention you're really new so I would not reckon two weeks unless you had a keyword-rich domain name. 4-8 weeks wouldn't be unreasonable for the homepage though.

In all honesty it's difficult to predict without looking at the serps for that keyword. Yes, it's generally low competition in terms of volume but it depends on how well the competition is optimised for that keyword.

    E.G.

Do they have the keyphrase in their title, h1 and on the text?
Do they have backlinks pointing to their site with that keyphrase?
    How old is their domain?
Do they have a domain name that matches the keyphrase?
How many backlinks are pointing to the page in question?

If you're new to seo i would recommend getting yourself a copy of market samurai as this will give you an easy to understand picture of how difficult it would be to rank for those terms.

Its impossible to make such predictions. You can't even say you will ever make it to number 1 spot.

Maybe 5 minutes. Maybe never. Try making some web 2.0 properties. I once jumped in straight to position 4 for a keyword with 105 million results. On the flip side, for reasons which are baffling to me, I can't get past position 5 on a poorly optimised competition niche which has 7,000 competing sites. For me, sizing up a niche is 1/3 planning, 1/3 luck and 1/3 the flippancy of Google.

All for a lousy $750/month?? I did market samurai and calculated with an average 1% conversion (thinking positive here), the most I'm making if I'm first place is roughly $1800. Half that if I'm anywhere below the top 3. Furthermore I could drop at anytime.

Please tell me that niche sites can be more successful than this considering I'll be putting in 300+ hours.

The profitability depends on the niche. I've made anywhere between < $200 and $5000/mo on a niche, with #1 rankings. Some niches are "open" because everyone else knows no buyers want that stuff, so they're not bothering. Other niches are open because the competition has been blind. Obviously, the second kind of niche is where the money is.

But I certainly wouldn't gripe about "only" $1800. Remember, you only have to do that work once, and then just maintain it. If you hold the position for 6 months, that's $10,800.

I'm not sure where this 300 hours' worth of work is coming in. I can't see what would take that long. If it's some boring thing like bookmarking, outsource!

Right on Remington. Plus, pewep, youll get better at what youre doing and it wont take you 300+ hrs to do it. So just do it. You need the experience.

if you dont know seo your better off building the site and revsharing with someone who does until you can do it on your own, whitehat to rank for the term, probably a month or 3, blackhat, a couple days, if that

all depends on how much work the other sites have put in.

if someone went "all out" for the past year to get that #1 spot and they are still going strong in order to keep it, do you really think you can waltz in and knock them out like butter?

1.6 million is doable but difficult no doubt the keywords that are easy to rank for are generally below 100k results. But its certainly not impossible.
