I redirected an old domain to my money site over a week ago. Google has already seen the redirect.
but there has been no change to my rankings, positive or negative.
how long does it take?

As with many things in SEO: it depends.

Could be from 1 week to 2 months.

Good answer, although I'd like to add that how fast does it happens depends on how frequently Google bot crawls your website.

Also, as rankings are always in flux, your fluctuation in rankings is probably not even accurate or due to some other factor.

Google does take time to change the domain even if both of your sites are new. Just for an experiment I first made a site with a lot of content and google rapidly started indexing it. I then took another new domain and 301d everything to the new site after a week ( to the respective articles ofcourse). Now, after 2 weeks, both of my sites are indexed and almost none of the old urls have been indexed to new yet and the new one is indexing the new content that has been posted after the domain change. It's kinda funny but I guess it will take a couple of month.. Hope it helps you too :)

From my experience, I would say 1-2 weeks. I did some 301 in the past and also in the last weeks and I've seen the results pretty fast. But I am sure there will be many opinions on this.

Hi sorry to butt in but how would you know if the SERPS have been passed to the new website?

Very true, forget to say that blasting the redirecting site and its links helps a lot.

hi what happen if i redirect spam expired domain (but that domain a lot of backlink & backlink from .edu & .gov) to my normal website ..... does it effect spam to my website too???

If my expired domain was banned by google ( not google adsense ) if i redirect it to my new website ... does it effect to my new website??

If it was banned (de-indexed) then you're shit out of luck. However, if it was only penalized, then it may boost your ranks temporarily. Eventually the penalty is passed on too, but it may take until the next update to do so.

Meh, 301 redirects are just so useless, you can only do so much of that until it get's too expensive.

you might have better luck with blokube/bizsugar/Folkd not much obl because most people don't know about it, similar effects.

I literally just wrote an article on redirects OP, if the redirect isn't indexed right away you might need to use a 302.

I think.... unless 302's are for temporary page transfers... I can't even remember :/.
