I'm thinking of selling an e-book for the first time.

I've found a great "miracle" weight loss method that has actually worked for me (and is still working). The problem is, I can explain what to do in about 1 paragraph! If I stretch it, I can get maybe 500 words out of it before it'll sound like a bunch of filler.

Can I get decent sales if I put this as a simple 1-page pdf, or do I have to drag it out with a big long-winded blathering-on about the physiology behind it? And if I do, HOW LONG do I have to keep going on about it?

Also, how much do you think I could get for it?

Any other tips I should know about?

I know that "weight loss" is a super-saturated market, but so far, this is my hottest prospect for an ebook. It also seems that a lot of people don't know about this method yet, which is another bonus.

I suggest you start-off by explaining how weight can be a problem to many people and how some people struggle for years to get rid of it. We call this the introduction.

Then you talk a little about how expensive it can be to get rid of it.

Then you end off by explaining about this personal method of yours (put a picture of you) before and after using this method.

You say how effective it is and in what timespan it helped you.

As far as how much you should ask is; ask yourself this question first. Do you want to make money or do you want to help others or do you want to help others and also make a few bucks?

Also, if you don't wanna write an ebook with all the boring stuff included, write a report instead.

Hey, I'm no writer, just my 2c.

I agree with what Wickedguy said. I would definitely lengthen it a little. But keeping it short could be a selling point. Something along the lines of "No more huge ebooks, we keep ours short and simple, so you can lose weight now"

Thanks. Some of the suggestions sound good, but I still don't know how long is long enough.

I think I can get a couple more pages out of an intro, though, so that's a definite help.

Also, I'd better NOT put a picture of myself. I've lost ~25lbs with this method. The problem is that I still need to lose another 100 or so, so I don't think my pic would be impressive! (That's what sitting in front of the comp all night for years before discovering The Method will do :p ) Of course, there is always the 'shop...

As for my objective, it's MONEY. I've already got a helpful blog out there for free, and if someone finds the post, they luck in. The ebook version is for the moolah. Of course, all the SEO is going to be going to any ebook I write now...

    Gotcha. :D

You mentioned writing a "report" instead. What's the difference? I always thought they were basically two ways of describing the same thing...

I would definitely make sure your e-book is at least 25 pages. Most people will get pissed off if they spend 20 or 30 or 50 bucks on an e-book that is only a couple of pages (or even worse a paragraph). Wouldn't you be upset if you only got a paragraph or even a couple of pages if you spent that kind of money online?

You should pick up some private label rights products and combine them with your e-book or report or whatever you want to call it. There are lots of good PLR products out there and you can buy some for like 10 bucks or even cheaper. Here's some examples of PLR products you can search for that will go good with your product:
    -exercise book
    -healthy recipe book
    -detox book
    -30 day meal plan book
    -increase your energy levels

Just look for products that will supplement your "miracle" weight loss method. These PLR products will make your overall package seem more legit. You can advertise your miracle weight loss method as the main seller, but then offer additional bonuses to boost the value of your product.

These bonuses will not only increase your conversion rates because people will be more inclined to purchase, but it will also decrease your refund rate because your customers will feel more satisfied if they are given a bunch of high quality products.

If you don't want to use these PLR products as extra bonuses you can just take some of the content within these PLR products and add them to your original product. You can lengthen your e-book by including a 30 day meal plan, and maybe include some simple work outs your customers can do at home. Add lots of pictures on your e-book to make it longer, maybe a table of contents will also add a bit more length as well.

Good luck with your e-book !!

Anything less than 50 pages is a refund.
If you go for the spaces / big font thing = refund + complaints.

If you have 1 paragraph it's not an E-book no matter how you spin this.

You can brand it as something else. It's not an "ebook" if it's that short.

I've had the same thought about a weight-loss method that is working for me as well (I've lost over 50 lbs in about 6 months). I just couldn't justify selling it without fluffing it up somehow.

You could say my essay would need a fluffer to lengthen it. :D

@ Le Dangles: Thanks! Just the kind of detailed advice I was hoping for! Puffing it up with PLR stuff is a great idea and the solution to the length issue. I'll probably rewrite that kind of thing (and add some other as bonuses), but that'll be a great source of ideas. Your suggestions as to the type of things to add are bang-on. Definitely a "why didn't I think of that" moment when it comes to the healthy recipes and exercise ideas.

    Thanks + rep added.

No worries! I'm getting ready to launch my first weight loss product on clickbank to so I thought I would help someone who was in the same position I was a few months ago. Hopefully your launch goes well...
