How long does the content from a site take to get deindexed on average?

Right, I want to use the content from my previous site into a new one.
After deleting all of the content and waiting for a couple of days, I have placed the old content into a new site.

I have done a copyscape analysis and it shows as duplicate from the old site.
Is there anyway to "kill" the other site? Or how long should I wait until this goes away?

    Thanks

Include it into bing and google webmaster stools. Then do a change of address from the old to new. Also 301 the old one to the new site, url by url exactly.

On the new site, include a canonical tag saying that THAT url is the legitimate source of the content.

    Thanks for the reply.
1- Should I include the new site into WMT just now or should I take the content off and then do that.
2- Change of address? What do you mean by this?
3- Cannot do 301, the old site has been penalized...
4- How about including a canonical tag saying that?

Oh, if the old site is penalized, you shouldn't do what I recommended above.

What you should do is include the penalized site in to WT then delete from the root. There's an option to do that. About change of address, it's an option inside GWT too, but don't do that if the old one is penalized.
Yes the new site needs a canonical tag to itself on each page, not on the penalized site. Do not include canonical tags on the old site saying the new one is the canonical, that'll hurt you.

    Thanks a lot.
Ill try to delete it from the root as you've said.
I have not done any canonical tags or anything, just added the content and checked in copyscape
    Lets see what happens

Right, submitted request for removal yesterday but no movement. Instead of updating the status, the request has just been removed.
Would I be safe just by placing canonical tags in each of my URLs?
I really don't know how long would it take to get the freaking old site completely deindexed and I would like to speed things up.

    Thanks again man

Unfortunately you can't speed this up any further. It's gonna take months for all this to process. Webmaster tools asks for 6 months to complete a site move...

You delete entire sites, then after a couple of months their pages are out there again... Google has issues deleting stuff...things that are long gone still appear on their index.

Just do all you've done, block the old site with robots.txt, add canonical tags to the new site, etc, it's all you can do. Hope this helped.

    Thanks a lot man.

Nothing beats freaking hostgator support... seriously, nothing beats it... (or so I haven't seen it)

The dude just went the extra mile and explained to me that once he removed the zone DNS and all of the stuff it would only take a period of around 24 hours for the content to completely vanish from the entire web.

Ill come back here to reply with the results in 48 hours.

Right, just done it, it all works wonders, in case anybody else has this issue, I will leave the solution right here:

1- Go to your robot.txt and block all of the SEs from crawling your site.
2- Delete all of the files in your domain via ftp (slow but secure) or via cpanel (faster)
3- Ping your site so the SEs find the robot txt and update your domain out of the serps
4- Completely remove the domain from your DNS zone (this will eventually remove the entire thing out of the entire web)

Now you are free to use your content once again :)

Bookmarking the url is also a good and powerful way too.
