I've experienced a few days on the low side, and a few weeks on the high side, and then plenty of cases in between those two somewhere...
If after 4 weeks you don't have anything happening, you might start to look at what the issue may be.

It depends on the strength (# of backlinks) of the first website.
Generally one week, I would say

a lot of different time frames being expressed here. My question is how is this metric measured? Are these answers to OP's question just speculation or did any of you actually measure this 301 effect?

    Thanks for the replies.

From the replies I can say that it can take somewhere from 1 week to 4 weeks but how can this be calculated. Does links pointing at your buffer site set this criteria? The more powerful the links the quickly they will start sending link juice or social signals or anything plays a role?

For one of my website Its been 10 days since I did 301 and start making links and the buffer website link still does not even show up in moneysite backlink profile. ( checked using ahref and other backlink checking tools). It's a simple 301 redirect with .htaccess. I will wait few more days and check.

what can be the issues? I can check them now and solve them before moving forward.

It is showing up in the ahref now. Lets see how long it takes to pass some juice and rank keywords.

It can take anywhere from 24-48 hours to a few weeks to completely pass all the link juice. Just remember it's not just the homepage but internal pages as well.

Usually passes completely to my new site in about 4 hours to 3-4 days. Different each time. But average for me is about 2-3 days.

So basically, it works the same way as without redirect. Google crawls the link, finds your redirect and redirect link juice to other website. It is not an instant process and depending on redirected links it can take from a few days to a few weeks.
    For example:
    1. if you redirect links from homepages, it can take a couple of days
    2. if you redirect cheap spamy links, it can take up to 6 weeks.

Excuse the noob question here (didn't really get into the whole 301 redirect thing) but you guys are talking about buying an old domain (with good backlink metrics) and redirecting that domain to your money site?

Does the redirected site has to be in your niche? or as long as it's a "good" domain (authority with good backlink profile) - it's good to be used as 301?

I've seen results within a day, literally. It could however take up to 1-2 weeks.

Hey, I have done a lot of redirections since the post. It took from couple of days to about 2 weeks at most for all the re directions to pass juice.
My links were indexed and passed juice quickly when I linked High PR and Authority websites to them.
