I built an Amazon Affiliate website, spent about 2 months designing it and then wrote 37 unique 500 word articles before even launching it. The website has been live for about 3 weeks now but the articles aren't ranking well. The web 2.0 articles that I write on Hubpages and Wordpress are found on the 2nd and 3rd page, but the money site page it links to is nowhere to be found. 40/42 pages have been indexed. The domain is around 3 years old. I uploaded all the articles at once.

Can anyone with PAST EXPERIENCE comment on this? Am I just being impatient? Could Google's new algorithmic change influence the ranking of new content? thanks.

How are you building backlinks for them? Have you tried reverse engineering competitors who have similar content?

I've built a web 2.0 with unique articles on it, I comment on yahoo answers with my site as the source, post articles on Hubpages, post on social media accounts.
I'm sort of scared to buy back-links because I don't want to get penalized later and I haven't really researched my competitors back-links because I can't pay for Ahrefs.

Could it be that your niche is just too competitive?

I promise that it is not. Facebook spam posts and really crappy web 2.0 sites rank on the first page and my web 2.0 posts rank on the 2nd page. Even then, I would expect my articles to be seen on the 3rd, 4th, or 5th page, but that is not the case.

This might be due to overoptimization, check your keyword density. Also, you said you published all articles at once, that's a mistake. Add more content, drip feed the articles.

I designed the website before I wrote the content, so I essentially had to publish the reviews at once or the layout would be a little off and there would be missing links everywhere.

I did a few things wrong at the beginning but quickly realized my mistakes. Now I have a variation of product + review in the title, h1, and description. I only mention the product maybe 2 or 3 times per 500 words.

In the beginning I had my domain name in each review's meta title which I quickly changed, but Google still hasn't noticed this yet. What's the best free tool to check keyword density?

3 weeks is a very short time to know were your real website position in ranking.
    Usually, it takes 2-3 months.
You said your articles not ranking very well!! If they are in the top 100 or top 200 withen 3 weeks from lunching the site, for me this is a very good sign that google know your site content and the ranking will improve with time.
Seems keywords your targeting has low competition since wordpress and hubpages ranked fast.

Here is few steps to do :
    - copy your article title and past them into google search, are they the first result ?
    - onpage optmization : targeted keyword should not be more than 2%. Targeted keyword must be in title.
    use :
    Code:
    http://tools.seobook.com/general/keyword-density
    - offpage optmization : backlins with exact anchor keyword must be lower than 5-4%.
    use :
    Code:
    https://ahrefs.com
    - Try to avoid building low quality backlink.

These are small tips to start with,
Remember, patience is the only option you have.

You can use the free version of majestic to check for competitors backlinks ( you can't see all but you can usually see enough to get a general ideea )

Try posting Articles like a dripfeed rather than posting in bulk, also try to get some Quality backlinks, you will get good ranking soon.

They are "buyer oriented" keywords, perfect for Amazon affiliate sites. All "product + review" or "category + review", but yes, relatively low competition. Also I will be drip feeding my articles from now, so no worries there. 2-3 months, hopefully in time for the Holidays! Thanks,
