So i did 301 redirect (Site is not penalized) and its been over 7-8 days and my new domain is not yet ranking anywhere. For 4-5 hours it ranked at #1 spot for one long tail keyword, but just disappeared after that. Anyone else who did 301 redirect recently? how long does it take for rankings to pass to the new domain?

My old domains was ranking good, top 15 for all the keywords.

    + reps for answers.

Earlier it was few days. This weekend I mistakenly done 301 from a penalized domain but strangely ranking dropped almost immediately.

Obvious question I guess but why 301 a site if it was ranking well ?

Anyway it varies , also ,the links will get diluted during the 301 so I'd give the new domain it's share of direct links or it won't work any where near as well as it should and you need to keep hitting the domain you are 301ing as well.

I did a 301 about a month ago, my site was ranking top 5 on page 3, (for an adult site,) and has now been removed from search. HummingBird pecks again.

Hi OP, pleasure to meet you. 301 redirects have started to become more and more ineffective through the last year and newest updates.

    Basically from my personal experience:

    1. Redirects should have a good amount of backlinks, even better, if its ranking for its main keywords then we are one step ahead.

    2. If you wish to speed up the process, you can submit it to your WMT and set a change of address. Google will process the 301 redirect a bit quicker.

    3. The redirect seems to pass on about 70-80% of its link juice the keywords must be virtually identical

    Hope this helps mate!

301 redirects are not effective any more. It's a hit or miss now. Thanks to all the SEO Gurus.

    Peace.

So I just had a site raped and murdered by Catt Mutts. All because he said I had some Russin links, supernatural links or somethin like that.

Well I still had lots of natural visitors, so I wanted them to go over to a new site. I 301'd the old one for the traffic. The new site is nowhere as popular as the old one, but I retained 20% of visitors and I have hopes it'll come back some day.

It's definitely not at the levels pre-rape, but it's not dead either. it's been 3 weeks now. Hope this helps.
