I have a domain that has been registered on March 15 2016 then linkbuilding stared on March 20 2016 and continues to the day.

The site has the same on-page structure like my other sites that already rank #1. However, this site seems to be sandboxed since beginning. It ranked #16 on Bing for a while, then it disappeared. Also one subpage ranked #145 on Google yet now it seems to be nowhere.

According to Ahrefs I already have Domain Rating 35 URL Rating 43 with 940 baclinks from 280 domains (+41 organic keywords ranking somewhere).

Is your experience similar with ranking a new domain?

I think you were penalized for something... you can check in search console if something wrong is happening.

I don't think this is the case. There is no message in GWT and everything looks as it should there. All pages of the website are indexed as they should be. Also the website shows up when naked URL is entered into search bar.

Why not get an old domain and rank it? It's much easier.

Well, yeah, now it seems like a good idea (didn't know this when purchasing the domain). But it is an EMD and as opposed to the popular belief, I still have good success with these domains.
