Whether it's ebay or any other marketplace, how are sellers protected from being scammed by buyers?
Here is example, buyer purchases mobile phone on internet and seller ships it with tracking number, tracking number is proof of parcel being delivered, but buyer can just say that there was no phone in the parcel. You get what i mean?

How does marketplace resolve disputes like that?

They usually demand the seller gives the money back. There is very little seller protection unless you can prove things in a cast-iron way.

If you have established history with positive feedback/sales and something like this happens, PayPal will typically be on your side. They will look at both accounts and see if the buyer has opened several disputes like these in the past.

If you're a new seller and a buyer has established history without similar complaints, they will typically get away it with and you'll be out the money.

    Just depends on the situation

Well most of the delivery guys take your signature so if they have recorded a signature of the buyer and he still claims it hasn't arrived, then it'll sound fishy obviously.

Although, yes. I wonder now too. Ever try to do this yourself? xD

UPS/Fedex also weigh their packages. So if it came down to it, you can show proof of weight when you shipped and proof of weight when you received it back.

For something like a phone i make it pick up only anyway and offer delivery. If its a good phone and you live in an area with enough people you'll be able to sell it no problem.

Far less likely to be ripped off

From my experience selling on Ebay, the buyer is always right and the seller is always wrong no matter the situation. I give an immediate refund if the buyer has any problem at all. Fortunately, I've never had a problem with a large dollar value item, but overall this is the cost of doing business on Ebay.

I've had problems with some eBay users. I just block them once the case is closed so they can never buy from me again.

I once attended a convention for retailers where they had the police chief of a major US city as one of the speakers and he opened his speech by saying

"If it looks like the authorities don't give a shit about property theft below $100,000, it's because we don't"
