How important is to have the "exact search" keyword as a domain name?

It's a lame question, but as I am a noob, I hope you will be forgiving. :p
I have a domain with a keyword in it. I mean it's a niche website like...let's say...niceblanketsdotcom. Now, obviously, "nice blankets" is the keyword. When you search on Google for "nice blankets" [exact search] it shows on average 300-400 targeted unique visitors each month. And now my question - the [exact search] keyword used as a domain name is a guarantee that my website will be number one on Google searches for "nice blankets"? Or you must do hard SEO work before obtain something like that?

You're always going to have to do seo work for ranking there's no circumventing that. There are a few reports on the affectiveness of kw's in the url and most seem to think it can make up about 40-60% of the seo work having the kw in the domain.

It can give you a really unnatural boost for very low competition keywords, but as you go more competitive the benefits wear off fast, so be choosy when buying them.

There is no guarentee at all. I have gotten some low comp "keyword.com"s to #1, but others to #3 #6 #7 #14 etc. All with good on site SEO , and a little backlinking. It depends on the competition.

But bear in mind , google may decide to come down hard on exact keyword domains, as chances are reasonably high they are just micro niches / MFA... Someone mentioned this a few days ago.

EMD gives a big push in SERP if the competition is low. It took me a month to reach first page with dash in domain where as my competitor with EMD reached within a week for a low competition keyword. Both domains are new!

As for now EMD's are really giving your site a nice push.
However Matt C says that it will change soon. Watch this video here

So, in long-term, it should be better to pick a domain with keyword+another word, than a domain with only the keyword in it?

Interesting video. But Matt does say that it gives an advantage - also in the future. The weight will just decrease a little bit!

Exact match domain is good. Moreso, if you combine it like this:

    1. keyword appears in titles of articles

    2. keyword appears in the url of article pages

Those 3 things give your site power.

nothing is guaranteed, but EMD are as close to a golden nugget as anyone can get in this game.

I've ranked on the first page with EMD's before with no backlinks or any seo work. And on top of that one of my sites was hacked and it just ended up being a blank page with no content.

If your just messing around, get an EMD and try to rank for it but if your thinking long term, it really doesnt matter a whole lot though it couldnt hurt to have part of the keyword in there, example: Main Keyword: Pizza Domain name: MagicPizza.com
