Hi everyone new guy here but have been reading non-stop for a couple months now. Have been through the entirety 787's and Tackticals threads just to name a few. Now i have a list of business's in y area and am ready to send out packets but am confused on one thing, a business name. Now I decided on making a website/business name to give authority to my business and let people know I'm legit. I just can't think of a good name. Internet marketing? Internet consulting? East Coast? West Coast? I'm just not sure. Can anyone shed some light on this topic? Thanks.

If you are talking about 7878's method on rep management then why not pick a name specific to that line of business.

I've thought about this, but let's say I choose something related to online rep management and in a couple months I learn about SEO and start doing that. I'd like the name to be broad so whatever service I'm offering correlates.

It's very simple. Let's say you make the name "Alliance World", for example, for your web business. You decide it's not "niche" enough. Instead of completely redoing the name you can either

    A. Abbreviate the name and add to it. For example:

AW Web Services, instead of Alliance World Web Services
Many big companies have done this: GM, for example.

    or

    B. You make Alliance World the name of your business, but you divide your business into segments. Ex. Design World is a line of Alliance World. SEO World is a line of Alliance World, etc. Typically, you don't want to do this.

Companies do this trick: Gawker Media, they own several popular niche blogs. Each blog has its completely different name, but the business name on file is Gawker Media. You only do this trick when you have separate niches (one segment of your biz is in the finance world, another is in the farming world, another is in the technology world, etc.).

I recommend example A. Which is what I'm doing.

Are you looking for a legal entity name that you can use? If so, you can have something like Smith's Consultants and operate several dba's (Doing Business As) under that.

If you are looking for a domain or single business name, I would never use your location as it limits you unless that is truly your market (such as the US).

Make sure the .com is available. Sure, you can rank .net, .biz, and .garbage but when you see a company with those domains, don't you wonder why they are not using a .com and if they are legit?

Give us more info on what you are providing.

You have to consider if you want to create your own brand name that is not used (Azraela.com) or use a name that incorporates keywords (Smith's Web Consulting & SEO)

I mean I would like a unique name but also some keywords thrown in there like online consulting. Right now I am providing Google Places optimization and maybe a social media marketing.
