I just started an authority blog, and I was wondering how important it is to post images in my posts since my subject matter isn't really one I can post a lot of unique images of. I have feature images on all my posts however, but should I be posting random images within the posts?

Also, I plan on making some videos to put in my posts too, this helps the SEO correct? Do youtube videos need to be unique content as well or can I use other people videos? Would it be better to create my own?

Images are useful if you use the correct tags with them. As for YT videos I add them all the time to my sites. They are relevant content and so far have not seen any downside as to adding them.

That said, a YT video with a link to your site is much more valuable.

I am not aware of any SEO benefits that come with images, however from a visitors point of view it would be better to break up long paragraphs of text with images to keep it interesting.

Images makes websites look better, which means that you have more chances of keeping visitors on your site. Use appropriate tags with images and you should see a small SEO effect.

I also link images with my other posts - it decreases my bounce rate.

Images have always had SEO value make sure you use the alt tag

But in the latest algo change, they have been upgraded,

I have found posts with unique images do better than post with copied images

Posts with copied images do better than posts without images

I havent gotten around to putting an exact value on it yet

But now I always use unique images.

Apart from the SEO value. they reduce bounce rate and make the site look better

Forget about whether you should include an image for SEO reasons and start thinking about what the visitor wants, as in the person that reaches into their pocket to get a credit card out so you earn a living.

    Cowcow7,

Images would provide only a marginal SEO benefit if optimized correctly. The real benefit from adding images to posts coms from a usability standpoint. Text is not only easier to read when its broken up by images but visitors are also more likely to read your text when images are present. This is especially true for the first paragraph of your posts.

Here are some good tips on how to use images in your blog posts,

    Hope that helps,

There is some correlation that long content with images in place (along with alt-tags) have been ranking better than those without images.

Now, correlation=/=causation and the true effect of images in SEO may be a lot, or simply negligible. However, look at it this way: It takes about 20 seconds to input and tag an image to a post. Even if it doesn't have a great effect for SEO, it's hardly any work for something that might make the page simply better to look at for a user.

    No brainer for me.

Wow, didn't know you can start an authority blog with a snap of your fingers. I thought this is something you build for years, months in best cases. Way to go, but something is telling me that your "authority site" won't get any high PR's or low Alexa's
