This list may not be exactly what you expected, but I can wholeheartedly say that saving money can be a lot easier than making more of it. Here are just a few things I did this weekend which will save me an extra $235 monthly. Perhaps these won't apply to you, but consider it a useful thought experiment. Saving money may not be as thrilling as making it, but the time/benefit ratio can be substantially better.

    • Called cell phone providers and converted whole family to use the same provider under a family plan. ($15)
    • Called cable company and informed them that I could no longer afford their service. They offered to put me back into the introductory rate for one year. ($20)
    • Returned the HD DVR box for my second TV and replaced it with a free digital adapter ($15)
    • Started using plastic grocery bags instead of buying diaper genie bags ($10)
    • Started buying a couple different generic brand food items at the grocery store ($10)
    • Refinanced mortgage ($70 ... though there were one time fees doing this)
    • Actually started to use some of those Subway coupons ($10)
    • Moved a few of my hosted sites into a hosting reseller account ($20)
    • Cancelled membership to the Y, but will reactivate in a few months ($50)
    • Unsubbed to an MMO I haven't been playing ($15)

    • Thanks Thanks x 3

You should really edit your thread title

    There's a difference in "netting $235" and "saving $235".

Admittedly, I'm no accountant but I believe the way it's written is still accurate. The bottom line of my monthly income vs. expenses is better now.

Wikipedia - "This term results from the traditional appearance of an income statement which shows all allocated revenues and expenses over a specified time period with the resulting summation on the bottom line of the report."

I think this is just semantics though and comparing the traditional use of the word net with a more public or general use of the word.
