Ahh the good old days, I'm talking 2008-2009. I never knew SHIT about SEO but this was an awesome way to make money when I was 16. I lived in Texas with plenty of small/medium restaurants around in need of fancier menus. I'd strike up a deal with them for either a full down-payment or monthly fees, then start producing better versions of their menus with nice pictures, word placement etc. Now here's where the additional moola came in (and why monthly/onetime payments would vary.) I saved space at the bottom of each page for Ads, which I got from Commission Junction (any pay-per-call ads would do) and local businesses (more monthly fees or pay-per-lead by using a traceable phone number.) Since most Mom N' Pops have shitty paper menus anyway it's a fairly simple gig. I printed them at home but a local print shop will work just as well for printing/binding/covers etc. These were the only expenses I had. Depending on the size of the restaurant I would print about 30-50 just incase, and when advertisers dropped, I collected the old menus and re-printed new ones. More established, busy restaurants (ie: local chain restaurants) are really lucrative since I could demand a premium price from local ads. The only software I used was photoshop since Fiverr didn't fucking exist and I didn't want cheap looking menus anyway. Since I was young and had extra time on my hands, I would hand out flyer versions of menus to local businesses (pretending I was some employee) so they would head over for lunch and possibly call one of the ads too. I kept the restaurants happy and met new people everyday so it was an awesome gig. The Super Profitable (Albeit Morally Wrong) Version Nowadays I don't condone this since I'm an advertiser myself, but think of it as "clicking your own ads" in the offline world. To maximize revenue I would gather friends & their friends to randomly call the CJ ads and stay on the line for the required 10-30 seconds and sign up if the offer interested them. I paid them a chunk of the profits and signed up for spoofcard to call the ads myself. There's a reason this only lasted for about 1-2 years, but damn...I never realized how blackhat I already was. Go get paid.
