Let me preface this by saying that I don't use 7878's method. It's a solid method, but is three and a half years old now and highly saturated in most markets. I work with individuals with a bad reputation online, and help them fix their negative Google results by drowning them in the positive. These are big fish with bad press in some big places.
I have begun using IFTTT as a nice, customizeable way to automate updates across social networks. This is one of my first posts so I can't put links up yet, but here are some of the recipes that I have been using often and work well:
Twitter Post > Wordpress Post
Twitter Post > Blogger Post
Twitter Post > Delicious Bookmark
Twitter Post > Diigo Bookmark
Twitter Post > Facebook Status Update
Twitter Post > Reddit Post in /r/[CLIENTNAME]
Twitter Post > LinkedIn Post
Twitter Post > Tumblr Post
Twitter Image Upload > 500px Image Upload
Twitter Image Upload > Flickr Image Upload
Twitter Image Upload > Instagram Image Upload
Twitter Image Upload > Facebook Image Upload
Twitter Image Upload > Blogger Media Album
Twitter Image Upload > Wordpress Media Album
Twitter Image Upload > Reddit Post in /r/Pics
Twitter Image Upload > Reddit Post in /r/[CLIENTNAME]
Twitter Image Upload > Delicious Bookmark
Twitter Image Upload > Diigo Bookmark
Twitter Image Upload > Tumblr Image Upload
Twitter Video Upload > Upload to YouTube
Twitter Video Upload > Upload to DailyMotion
Twitter Video Upload > Upload to Vimeo
Twitter Video Upload > Facebook Video Upload
Twitter Video Upload > Blogger Media Album
Twitter Video Upload > Wordpress Media Album
Twitter Video Upload > Reddit Post in /r/Videos
Twitter Video Upload > Reddit Post in /r/[CLIENTNAME]
Twitter Video Upload > Delicious Bookmark
Twitter Video Upload > Diigo Bookmark
Twitter Video Upload > Tumblr Video Upload
I've got quite a few more, but that's my current hub for Twitter. What does it mean? If I post an image via my client to their Twitter, it will shoot it out to 500px, Flickr, Instagram, Facebook, Blogspot, Wordpress, two subreddits, Tumblr, and bookmark through Delicious and Diigo. If it's a text update, it will take out Flickr, Instagram, and 500px and replace it with LinkedIn. If it's a video upload, it will upload it to YouTube, DailyMotion, and Vimeo.
This will surely expand as more channels are added to IFTTT, but it sure is nice having it all on autopilot... for free.
