How I made it to #2 on Google in 3 days as a complete Noob......and stayed there.

OK. I've been around for awhile now and thought I'd finally share my first real website experience from a couple years ago. It worked for me then and it still works today. No haters. If you're a noob, read on.....

Good things come in two?s I guess. It was my second attempt at setting up a wordpress blog. It was my son?s second birthday, and it was the day I made the #2 spot on Google.
I signed up for the domain xxxxxxxxxxx.com on June 23[SUP]rd[/SUP], 2010 and I found out that it made the #2 spot on google on June 26, 2010. Just as important to me is that I hit #6 on Google against 7,020,000 pages at the same time for another keyword.

    How did I do it?

    Well, here?s what I did.

First, I did some keyword research. I signed up for a free trial to Market Samurai and used the keyword research tool. I tried to pick keywords that had matches with less than 50,000 pages for exact match. I double checked those with Google Adwords tool. Then, I went to Domainsbot.com and started checking domain availablility. Going back and forth between the two, I ended up using a 3 word keyword phrase. Next, I opened up an account and registered the exact domain match domain with Namecheap.com.I chose to register the site keeping my name private by using the service they offer for privacy. The total cost was $14.06. Then I changed the nameservers to point to my host; Host Monster. I then called Hostmonster and asked them to help me install WordPress. I use HostMonster because when I call them for technicall support, someone actually answers the phone and speaks plain English. AND they don't get all shitty when I ask them for help with other things. Then I watched a series of youtube videos of how to install plugins in WordPress. I installed the plugins. I found the best ones by searching Google for ?best WordPress plugins?. The videos included how to input your search engine optimization information. I then got a free trial at Traffic Bug.Entered the domain name into Traffic Bug. Then I signed up for Google Analytics and pasted the code on my site. This is not difficult. I did it by watching a You Tube video. I added three posts to the site. Made sure to have a contact page, sitemap, about, home, etc pages. Then I had dinner. :)

I did not go and backlink anything before the site got indexed or ranked. It hit #2 and eventually dropped to number 3.

Ok. Then I went to Fiverr and bought several back linking packages. Search pyramid backlinks, Xrumer and be sure to sort them by "Rating"

Then I signed up for Google Adsense. Placed ads on my site.

My site went to #1 for the exact match.

Then I decided to grow the site and rank for additional keywords, so I made new pages with articles written around those keywords, and backlinked those as well.

My site ranked #1 for those too.

Then I added content about every 3 months or so for the first year or so.

At one point, I kicked it up a bit and added a video. Then in one week added about 20 pages. So my site was starting to look like a pretty decent site.

Since then I haven't touched anything. Complete autopilot. I just get checks from Google.

    Here's what I learned....

Some of the many pages that I added are complete shit. However, some of the pages that I added are getting really good traffic and provide most of the revenue from the site. I would have never thought that some of those pages would be popular. Lesson learned? You never know what's going to work. So keep trying. If it doesn't work just switch it up a little and see if that works. No big secret here.

Now, it's adsense, so I'm not getting rich, but scale this up or do this for 100 sites, and you can make a really decent living. And when you're done building those, since this is completely automated, you'll have time on your hands, so you can then venture into something else to diversify your income stream. Never put your eggs into one basket friends.

    Enjoy and prosper!

That's beautiful, congrats and thanks for sharing your success! Some of us aren't that fortunate at the beginning and I'm glad you took charge and you weren't discouraged. Market Samurai is a very unique tool, I have the trial version. I'm hoping to use MS with SB to do what you have done so easily. Thanks for giving me some hope! Also Happy Birthday to your son!!

There are a lot of great tools out there that can help you get what you want. These are just a few of the many that I use now. Glad you liked it. You can always use the "Thanks" button in the future located on the left side of the screen just under anyone's post. Good luck to you!

Ok you should make the part bold where you say you did this method years ago because somehow i don't think its not going to happen these days, so not really relevant.

Basically this thread could've been changed to one paragraph saying "hey i bought some fiverr gigs and got ranked top 3 and then i ranked more pages for more keywords and i'm number one"

It's because of the haters that it took me so long to catch on to IM. No one ever wants to explain the first baby steps around here. I wish someone would have done that when I first showed up. Would have put me much further ahead than I am now.

Totally disgree here. I just put up 3 sites and guess what? yup. ranking like a moe foe. Don't believe me? Try it. It's hard to be beat relevant, completely unique content on an exact domain match with lots of content. Sorry but regardless of how experienced anyone here is, I believe that's what Google is looking for. Do your BH, do your tricks, do your b.s. and at the end of the day, content is King.

You are missing the exact point of his thread if that's the summary you've gleaned from his experience. And he's dead on with his assesment on how it actually works. Now, obviously alot has changed since 2010 (especially with emd's), but the fact remains that building out sites centered around a family basis of keyword terms and fleshing out the site and adding content to it simply plain out and out WORKS.

I've probably built, myself, over 700+ sites over the years for adsense, so I have some skin in the game. It is all a numbers game...let no one tell you differently. You'll have some stinkers that you thought were solid, and other sites that you threw together that you thought were shit were awesome in terms of revenue. You won't know what you have until you put it into the index and google rubs its magic algo over it to determine where it thinks it should rank. Then you know from that point what you need to do.

Good job on sticking with it Turbo. Some people DO make a load of money off adsense once you realize that by dedicatiing a yearly budget to the development, upkeep and seo for your adsense properties you can start to plan out ROI's over any given quarter. I still have one site from 2005 that avg's $30-35 a day and is in the alternative energy sector. Who woulda thought?

Good 'ole fashion hard work, building sites around good keywords flat out works. And noobs don't know that. I didn't then. and they still don't now. Thanks for the post. Good luck to you!

    Speaking of software....

If I had it to do all over, I probably wouldn't change much as I really believe it's important to go through the steep learning curve. It weeds out those that aren't cut out for this type of work.

That said, the one thing that I would have changed though would be that I wish I would have purchased a really good piece of software and learned it. REALLY learned it. Like maybe Xrumer. There are others. But to really become an expert in one of the great pieces software at our disposal would have pushed by IM career even more quickly and made a really nice foundation for income streams. just sayin'

    Great job mate.

Are you able to share which gigs you bought from fiverr? And you did mention about writing more content around those keywords... are they keywords to your 3 worded EMD or related keywords?
