Yes, I think Facebook will die very soon. Its dying a slow death tho. Its just getting bored and for companies the algorithm is just fucked up. I had a page with 300k likes. Before all the algorithms I had a great engagement rate. Now I get like 300 likes and a few comments. Then always the notification "Spend $10 for ads on this post and you can reach 10k people" blabla. Its just ridiculous.
Saying facebook/social media will die is like saying the banking industry will die.
Social media is a part of our culture now, and personally, I fucking hate it. It puts a lot of social pressures on people and opens up conversations like "Oh why didn't you reply" - with which I would respond to "Fuck off, it's only been a few hours since we spoke".
HOWEVER, I also believe it's done a great deal of good for the general public:
- Innovation has thrived because of social media - more and more businesses are having to come up with better angles which is destroying the old business structures.
- Idiots are more aware of what's available
- The average person is able to access services they weren't previously able to
- It's provided voices for those that were previously not heard (VICE for example, may be a libtard platform now run by cunts, but previously they documented some really important issues that were previously unknown off)
- We as internet marketers can claim its cancerous and all that bs, but ultimately a lot of us have profited from social media. I am a victim of this, and openly admit I am a hypocrite: I don't like social media, but I've made good money from it.
Unfortunately, whenever there is a paradigm shift in how we communicate/operate, there have always been adverse affects historically (industrial revolution is in some cases argued as catalysts for some major wars). Now however, lot of those adverse affects are more apparent to us down to the fact that every idiot has a fucking voice via social media.
Social media is here to stay, whether we like it or not, and that reptile zuckerberg will just adapt. Whether that means VR social media or some other means of delivering content, it'll always be in our world now.
The issue isn't social media, it's the people. Going back to a point I touched; even the idiots of the world have a voice now, and because we have such a big population, it doesn't take much for an idiot to have idiot followers. Which in turn leads to a mass of idiots ranting about the same crap.
Even if we took away social media, these idiots will forever find a way so long as there is the internet, we just have to accept that instead of going on witch-hunts for specific platforms.
A better solution instead of a witch-hunt would be to educate (no I'm not talking about uni degrees) and develop a better internet culture, but I won't go further into this as I'll go into politics.
I personally don't partake in social media much, I like the OP's thought process though. I go through phases of social activity, and whenever I'm most socially active, I tend to lose focus in my business life.
