You should be involved in daily activities such as posting tweets, adding different groups and sharing tweets.
Invite your friends to your profile, it will increase the number of your followers.

Yeah you could check out some software however you may be banned. It would be wise to simply follow 20 people a day for a couple of months

Following people related to your niche/industry is the best way with little work. After you follow, drop a comment on their most recent post and like a few comments from other people in the posts if they have any (those people are probably related to your niche too). You can always un-follow and delete your posts and comments later.
