How I can do this with my site?

Can anyone help me? I want to do the following but don't know how -
I want visitors to my blog ( I am using wordpress) to be able to change certain preferences like screen color and starting page. So for instance, i will offer them the choice of two starting pages and then that will be stored in their cookies somehow so that every time they visit my blog they start at the one of their choice.They would ideally also be able to set other preferences such as screen color, language etc.
The only way that I have thought to do it would be to create several versions of the same page i.e. one in English with a green background and text version A on the page, another page that is blue with french language and text version B etc. Seems a bit long winded but if it gets the job done i dont mind - what I can't work out though is how to save the choice so that the visitor doesn't have to set it every time - it just remembers.

sounds like something ajax could accomplish here, not going to be easy unelss you go the route of creating each page individually

have you posted it in a wordpress forum. difficult from the word go. But then wordpress has done so many things you never know!!!
