I'm new to wordpress. I want to use wordpress to make a site that looks like:

    weallscheme.com

Can someone tell me the steps to making a website using wordpress?

These are the steps that I'm thinking:

    1)Buy domain
2)Get hosting from godaddy or namecheap
    3)install wordpress (I'm assuming it's like blogger?)
    4)add content, etc.
    5)Google indexes your site

Are those steps correct? Or is it much harder, etc?

Just get a hosting place that has one click wordpress install....like hostgator. Just go to the wordpress website for instructions on how to use it. Very easy to use.

It's very easy to use and install, as long as your hosting has Fantastico (comes with cPanel). HostGator has it, but I think Lunar offers it too. It's just a metter of clicking the WordPress link and it will install it for you in 10 seconds.

    Basically:
    Buy domain at namecheap
    Get hosting
    Install/

Then you customize it by adding a new template and some addons, and content.

Installing manually isn't too hard either.
The first time i installed it and went to the admin panel I knew how it worked. without reading anything, it's very intuïtive

The hardest part is setting it up, hostgator and many other hosting providers offer 1 click wordpress installation, which makes it much easier for people who have no experience what so ever with MYSQL. A 5 year old would be able to figure out the basic wordpress interface, just play around with wordpress and you'll be able to use it like a pro in no time.

Just jump into Wordpress and you'll have it mastered in a short time. I was petrified of it for many months, so I kept meesing around with blogger blogs and squidoo lenses.
Finally one day I got up the stones to just learn the dam thing and within a day had it learned pretty well (it really is easy)
There's so much more you can do with a wordpress blog and there's tons of plugins.

I buy a domain through GoDaddy.
Redirect the DNS servers to my host (hostgator)
Go to cpanel in hostgator and activate the addon-on domain
Go to fantastico deluxe and up load word press.
FTP a nice template and voila' your ready to rock!

So Fantastico is what exactly? Is it a ftp server? Do you know if namecheap offers fantastico?

So basically I would have to install wordpress using fantastico, then login to wordpress.org and then make the designs and contents from there?

I'm a bit confused about the fantastico and how it relates to wordpress.

I'm not trying to set up just a blog. I'm trying to setup a full blown functioning website exactly like weallscheme.com

I don't get why you need to use fantastico, then download and install wordpress 2.7.1 version.

I thought you'd just login to your hosting account choose wordpress, set up some dns settings or whatever, then login to wordpress.org and everything should be operational?

I don't know why you need to have ftp server, know php scripting, etc.

WeAllScheme.com is still a Wordpress blog after all. It is using Revolution Church theme and you can get it for free in the download section(you must thank BHW!). Besides, the site owner actually uses a couple of wordpress plugins to enhance the site.

Fantastico tends to simplify the process without having you to download and upload the wordpress files. If you can install Wordpress manually then just go ahead. After all not all web hosting services provide cPanel and fantastico. Though most of them do.

When I read this sentence I am starting to doubt you know how to install Wordpress manually. You seem do not possess much technical skills. And that's why I am asking you to visit becomeablogger.com. The videos there will show you step-by-step guide on buying domain name, hosting, configuring dns, installing wordpress and practically everything you should know.

You need ftp client to upload files to your server which could be a shared hosting, VPS, dedicated server, etc. Wordpress is an open source content management system(CMS) that is developed and programmed in PHP. Hence, having to know PHP scripting is an advantage whereby you can easily manipulate your wordpress site.

Please visit becomeablogger.com to learn more about what I have said. Once again I am not embedding my affiliate link here so do not be afraid of visiting the site.:D

    Hey Clickbang,

Quick question for you. In the videos that I watched on becomeablogger.com he says click on "my sql" then upload things that way. So my question is that necessary to do? I thought you could also use fantastico wordpress and go about it that way. Or are these two different methods?

If you have fantastico then by all means use it. It is far more simplified. You don't have to use mysql.
Check out Atomic blogging. You can download it here. http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...ership-vids-mp3-wptheme-plugins-pdfs-doc.html
It walks you through the process of setting up a blog and setting it up right.
2 plugins you should have include SEO Platinum and Google sitemap generator for wordpress. Atomic blogging shows you how to install plugins as well. Very simple stuff.

I've been building niche websites for a couple of years and stayed away from blogs. Now I wish I started earlier. They are far much easier to build and maintain than standard websites.

There are two ways of installing wordpress.

Manually: you setup a databse and go through the installation steps i.e. mysql

Automatic: Use Fantastico - you pretty much just enter in your blog name and where you want it installed and it does it all automatically - setting up the database etc...

I can't really remember what exactly is shown in the video. After all I watched all of them 1 year ago and they should have updated the videos. Anyway it's exactly what mentioned by shm03. You only have to create mysql database when you are installing Wordpress manually. Otherwise, Fantastico will generate a database automatically for your new blog. I believe you will get the work done properly and easily as long as you follow the procedure shown in the video.

Just get a nice domain from 000webhost.com for free, and cop wordpress to it and do the following:

    Installation: Famous 5-minute install

    1. Unzip the package in an empty directory.
    2. Open up wp-config-sample.php with a text editor like WordPad or similar and fill in your database connection details.
    3. Save the file as wp-config.php
    4. Upload everything.
    5. Open /wp-admin/install.php in your browser. This should setup the tables needed for your blog. If there is an error, double check your wp-config.php file, and try again. If it fails again, please go to the support forums with as much data as you can gather.
    6. Note the password given to you.
    7. The install script should then send you to the login page. Sign in with the username admin and the password generated during the installation. You can then click on 'Profile' to change the password.

    :)

Thanks a lot everyone, I pretty much am familiar with how to do it now.

Does anyone know how much I should spend if I want a customized wordpress theme?

They don't have the theme I'm looking for. I look everywhere online for it and didn't find it. I want a hiphop music theme, but no one is selling it or has it for free download, so I'm thinking about buying it now.

Any suggestions on what I should ask for exactly?

Example: A hip hop wordpress theme that I can upload onto my wordpress. (Should that be enough?)
