HI

I'm looking at setting up my own membership site, one that actually works,I don't know what kind of site yet still thinking of ideas
just wandering how to set up and how hard is it to get started

You can get plugins to run the payment/backend side of things.

As for getting started, think about a unique angle on something very popular, and create an info product/resource/forum etc on that topic.

Or, the lazier version, create a single product, and upsell membership products from others, leading to monthly affiliate income.

Depends on what your membership site is about, how much time you are looking to put in and how you promote it. The BIGGEST thing to keep in mind, in my opinion, is to offer real value so people actually want to participate. Good luck! :)

I did an education based membership site for a client a little while back. Everything done in Wordpress. It's not that hard to set up because Wordpress is made for members by default anyways. Your two big options depending on which way you want to go are:

1. vBulletin if you want a forum

or

2. Wordpress, if you want a more personal blog feel to your site

Then, all you need to do is target every longtail keyword possible in your niche, get relative search engine traffic, maybe even run some paid ads, and wait for the members to flow in.

You'll get yourself a nice targeted email list in the process. AKA Profit.

Good luck!

i am also creating an info product & thinking of crating a membership site as upsell for that.Any suggestion for a wordpress membership site plugin easy to use except for optimizepro.

Membership sites need plaining, get this bit right and it will take off, think of something different and it will work

You need to find a good niche, one where you can offer value.

Then decide do you want to run a blog or a forum, and depending on that decision - choose your platform.

Then decide on your budget, invest that in content and promotion, and hope for the best.

There are many WordPress Plugins that do that. I have a membership site and I'm using Paid memberships Pro. The plugin is easy to use and 100% free - opensource. The drawback is that it's not as flexible as I want in some cases but you own the users. recently I've found out zaxaa. It promises a ton of amazing features but the draw back is that I haven't found many reviews about them and that you don't own anything (regarding users etc). Also it's far more expensive. For starters I'd go with Paid membershop pro definetely!

I've been using Digital Access Pass. Pretty powerful and awesome support. Integrates well with PayPal and ClickBank.
Wishlist is also nice.
If you've got the dough, and don't want to admin the site yourself - Kajabi worked pretty well for me in the past.

Good luck!

I found that giving away daily freebies keeps the members loyal. Something simple like investing $10 into an envato PSD template and passing it on to your members.

Good luck

I have found an extremely profitable niche and almost no competition looking for a business partner to help out with this venture. I will drive traffic ect, i just need the website designed. Already got 5 signs ups.

I've read a lot here and get most of the basics. Just need to test the waters and practice while learning the ropes.

However, one thing boggles my mind. If I make a membership/dating site, I will start with 0 members. No matter how successful my promotion campaign is, no one will want to sign up to a web site that has no members. I heard you can try to fill up memberships with "fake" profiles, but that wouldn't be good. The few who might genuinely join will realize it's a fad and I want a credible business and reputation.

How do you get past this part? I think it might be the most crucial part and I don't see a way around it.

You have to offer quality or hard to get content in order to people pays

during my research into this type of business i came across this, hope it has some value to you. This is what they say " Pre-populated global database and a selection of promo tools and affiliate marketing allows you to market and convert dating traffic into revenue from day one. ". Worth thinking about
