    Hi,

found a keyword which from all the stuff I've read on here should be rankable, but all the competitors are the big guys. What's your experience with beating Amazon/Walmart and overstock.com?

It's got a nice CPC of $5 and +20k searches.

In my experience with this, it could go both ways. It seems lately that Google has been giving a lot of weight to the businesses like wal mart ect. I think this is because if Google recognizes the search term as something that is being shopped for they will give people results that are for shopping. I hope that makes sense.

Anyways, with a keyword like that, I would judge a lot off of the pages that are not walmart or amazon, but if there is a blog or article on the first page. Every domain on that page has a yahoo listing and some age except that one. The downside is that one domain has 766 backlinks and a pr of 3. I am guessing that is something with the keyword in the domain but not a famous website?

It is really hard to tell without doing a little more research. If you would like more help you can shoot me a pm.

Lastly, all of those websites are cached very recently which means that G gives them some weight and re checks their site quite often.

In my own browser walmart, amazon and overstock are sitting on the number 2, 3 and 5 while the rest are sites I've never heard about, all of them being selling the actual product.

The one with 700 links does not have keyword in the domain and is not famous

Vamp your Deep Linking as Much as you would your Domain Linking and you will rank up there with them

Obviously "win" as many "categories" as you can. The big one i See tho is they barely have links to their deep pages.

    Focus on that..

Is the .com or .net available? If they are, I say go for it. If they are not, I would check where they are and why they are not on the first page. If someone else that found the keyword and bought the domain could not get it to the first page, then it might be more difficult then it looks.

If you can get the .net, honestly it is 4.95 for a domain name. Just buy it and give it a go. Hope that helps a bit. Good Luck, and you never really know till you try.

I've heard .com is maybe the best but that .net/.org are equally good.. i just hit buy and i've got the "buy + keywords.org" If it ranks, then I'll be extremely happy, if not, then it wasn't such a great loss, and then I might try and flip it =)

The .com owner is a douche who believes he can rank without a single backlink even though he has both adsense and amazon ads on it...

oh well, i guess ill just spin his content and use it on my web 2.0 backlinks =)

It is very easy to outrank them as they rank mostly because of the domain trust. However, it is easy to outrank them by increasing your site's topicality. That means for specific product names it will be harder because you can't write that much about a product. Doesn't make sense to have many pages about one single product.
