I am starting a new website with a friend of mine and we were thinking about creating a gaming website about a certain type of game, the website is not going to be in english language so it would be easier to rank, as the competition is low.
The problem is if we would be able to make money. Please share your experiece in the gaming niche.

When you say certain type of game, do you mean just one game/series of games, or one genre?

If you're focusing on just the one game it will be tricky to monetise, as most people visiting a specialist website will have the game already. If your focus is broader there's definitely the opportunity to make some money reviewing the latest games & including affiliate links.

We were refering to a specific genre, not one game.

I have a gaming website and its very difficult to make money with it because the CPC is extremely low with adsense. Also if you have amazon affiliate links, people won't usually buy anything because they came on your website looking for guides, walkthroughs, reviews etc.

Anything that is in the gaming niche is hard to monetize because most people are looking for FREE information or help with the game. I used to make quite a bit of money promoting Facebook game guides about two or three years ago, but now the sales only trickle in. Thanks mainly to people becoming aware and more caution on how they spend their money.

As the consensus says, it is pretty difficult. The combination of users in search of free information and a generally young male demographic will make it hard to monetize effectively.

Review new games, create strategy/other relevant videos and content.

I'm not in that niche but there are tonnes of ways to make it work.

the CPC is high especially if you score World of Warcraft ads. (well they used to pay anyway) I was in this niche 3 years ago and was getting 1$ CPC. Traffic is another story

Don't think this ideia will give you money OP. If you want to work with games get some CPA gaming offer and promote or make your own indie game

If you can get 100k views/month, 1% CTR from that, and $0.20 per click, you can make $200 a month with AdSense. If you think this does not sound like a lot for the work you'd have to put in, you'd be right. Multiply the views or CPC by ten, and you're in the money. Verify the kind of traffic you will expect and the kind of CPC you can get for it. (For example, I bet the #1 WoW site in Chinese or Spanish earns quite well, not so much the top site in Farsi.)

Change it in english language if you want to get some good money, or depends what country do you target. You have to research before invest money in ranking it to see if it's worth
