    Hi, I was monetizing one of my sites selling Text Links Ads. The price depends on Page Rank of the inner pages (I'm not selling links from my Homepage). My Site is only PR3 and i'm not making good money with it. My target was to reach PR 5 to be able to raise my price to $50+ per link.

    My question is, does anyone here on BHW have a site with PR 5 or up?
    How hard is it to reach this PR? It's been months and my PR is not improving even with continuous Whitehat linking.

    Okay, don't tell me that selling TLAs are not good in the eyes of Google. I already know that.

    You should create more and more backlinks in the sites with higher PR than yours. This will take you to the next level. PR0 to PR3 would be lot easier than to move from PR3 to PR4 and will take a lot of time.

    You have to remember that moving up in PageRank gets more and more difficult as you do it - some people say it takes 10x the effort of the previous step for each new step. So let's say, for argument's sake, that it takes 10 "links" to move from PR0 to PR1. In this case, it would take:

    10x10 = 100 "links" to move from PR1 to PR2
    100x10 = 1000 "links" to move from PR2 to PR3
    100x100 = 10,000 "links to move from PR3 to PR4
    etc.

    Obviously, any numbers here are extremely speculative as there's a lot of factors that influence PageRank and nobody but Google themselves knows what these factors are, but one thing is for sure and has been proven over and over again - as you climb up in PageRank it will always take more and more effort to keep climbing. If it wasn't so then we'd see a boat load of PR9 sites around.

    We have one PR 5 site, and several PR 4's. The PR 5 and most of the PR 4's are 6+ years old, the PR5 being about 10 years old. There are a couple of PR4's that are only 2 years old, and some PR3's one year or less.

    Byranon is absolutely correct in his example - each increase in PR is based on an exponential increase. But it can be done :) Just takes time and work. The PR5 site that we have, interestingly enough, has had pretty much no off page SEO done by us - it's all been totally natural backlinks received over the years, due to very high quality content - and lots of it.

    Ouch! Now I can feel that it's pretty hard. I guess this kind of business needs a lot of time investment. That's a little bit of discouragement for me.

    nonsense....I don't know if bryanon is trying to spread misinformation or just doesn't understand but it really isn't about the quantity of links.

    You can become PR5 from just ONE link if it is PR7 and above. People won't believe this but that is their loss.

    Where is this PR chart that says this? I'm curious. If this were true, linking to one of our other sites from the PR5 site would get the other site PR4. And I can tell you that has not occurred.

    To complete Bryanon point of view here is a chart with a supposely effort to reach for each PR step.

    Don't take it word by word, it isn't that accurate but it gives a nice idea on how it works :

    yes it works like mentioned in chart...

    but quality of backlink depends..

    i know its not just 1 pr 6 will give you pr 5 .. but it will move from 0 to pr 3,4
    and more pr 6(2,3) will give pr 5..

    With this caveat: "It's important to remember that obtaining links from high PR sites is not the only criteria - The amount of "PageRank value" (also called link juice) that this link will pass depends on the PageRank of page divided by the number of outgoing links on Page."

    If 5 of my sites got link from a PR 6 or 7, does that split the juice?

    Lol, I think you misunderstood me a little bit. What I provided above was an example. And I tried to make it as simple as possible.
    Of course your PR will rise much quicker with incoming links from high PR sites - this is how PR works - but nevertheless it takes many times the effort to jump from PR4 to PR5 than it takes to jump from, say, PR1 to PR2.

    Also both you and spenzo are incorrect saying that all it takes is one PR6/7 link to get PR5. Sure, this could easily be the case if your link was the ONLY link on this PR6/7 site, but in most instances this won't be the case.

    With respect to the OP and the follow on posters PR is a flawed matrix that has been dead in the woods for years, but for some obscure and maybe mythical reason folks make the basic mistake of chasing PR which is a waste of time and money!

    Why is it so permanently damaged and fatally abused beyond repair - easy read the quote above from SterlingMedia who is spot on and clearly shows what a jackass matrix PR is :eek:

    I have had a bunch of sites hyped this way - but the bottom line is the people who chase PR are being deceived by a morally bankrupt matrix...

    It is a Jackass Matrix, agreed - but it's not so simple as what he says. If there are many links on that PR7 page, the link juice is split between them.

    But you are correct in that chasing PR is not the greatest thing to be chasing. Your SERP's for various keywords won't give you an advantage just because of a higher PR.

    True... however, some will pay more for a link on a higher PR page or site.

    Bryanon has explained perfectly how it works without a chart ;). Refer to the pic / link given in thread and you'll see he wasn't wrong

    @OP : Also, you have to consider that the theories we have given to you doesn't take into consideration the numbers of outbound links there is on the page you place your links on.

    The Pagerank flow (PR carried through a link) is divided with a specific algorythm and descrease drastically (expotentially probably) among all the links of the page

    Yes there are still lots of people buying links from high PR pages this day. That's is why I was asking if it's easy to reach PR 5. So I can make more of my pages to reach this PR and sell Text Links.

    This gives me headache. I actually searched for a mathematical formula for Pagerank. I can see that it was being split to the Outbound links. I wonder how did blogger like Darren made his problogger blog to PR 6. And he's selling TLAs?

    Oh yeh absolutely! Nobody in their right mind would give PR any credit. But the reason I answered OP's question rather than replying with a lecture on the pointlessness of PR is that there's still a lot of people out there who do chase PR, and OP is in the business of catering to these people and therefore needs his sites to have a higher PR.
