yes i know they have invested millions on to there site and could take years to reach where they are now but there are sites that started from notting without any massive investment but are now worth $$$$ like lifehacker.com vivralnova.cum etc and others am thinking of starting a similar hire top notch writers as full time workers my idea is basically start my site and lunch it then and hire cosntent writer to hijack the internet with trending content i can only hire about 10-15 writers to post 2 article daily based on my budget but is it a good idea to go after sites like buzzfeed and viralnova? i usually run out of ideas when i have capital and then have plenty of ideas when am broke

how longs a piece of string .. if i can give you any useful advice, be absolute sure you know everything about your product and be certain you are in a very small select group of people living that know more about this then anybody else .. an once there .... ask if everything goes wrong, can i still do this alone... an then start thinking, if everything falls over, everyone falls away, an you are alone with nothing an everything at risk, an nobody cares... and everything sucks ... and this comes daily .. an you're unfazed ...

    go get it ...

Its really hard to make a site like buzzfeed but if you can invest in site design and unique content then you can do but it takes years to get the authority like buzzfeed.

It's not simple one to compete them. You will really come to know the true only if you start the project. Takes much time to but you can if you start. Good luck!

You can even do it without writers. Like 9gag. But you do need a team of people to analyze and post data.

In reality, all you need is one page that can go viral on social network, and then it just rolls from there. But in order to know how much is there a potential to scale, you have to test it.

There are already alot of sites that is 10% as successful as buzzfeed. Do all of them have millions on their hand when it started? No. I even saw a plain simple themed site that didn't even have a $5 logo and no unique content, but a [VERY] stupid video, and that went super viral.

My analysis in regards to this is, normal people (hint: IQ level of 1) don't care whether your site has thousands of unique content or not (they are human, not google).
They just want something that is stupid, bizarre, wacky, funny, whatever.

Don't limit yourself to just be competing buzzfeed. You should be focusing on the core of it, which is viral content. Since you mentioned doing it using scraping, you've lessen the resource needed to create original content. Once your traffic grows, you can start hiring people to do all the scraping job for you.

It probably not that hard, just buy a bunch of Indian writers and buy a bunch of social media packages and you're pretty much done.

...and servers, and backups, and the communications circuits, and bandwidth, and software to run all this. How many simultaneous connections do you think buzzfeed has to handle at a time? Fiber backbones aren't cheap.

....OH, wait, you're doing it with a VPS or shared hosting, WP and plugins, right?

I mean, I agree in having Goals and all...but at least quasi-realistic ones.

I have one going similar to VN and it was going great until FB put a choke hold on "reach" and now the same traffic that help build many of these sites has died (unless you have deep pockets) or (other traffic sources).
I still think this is a good idea, but I'm now going to focus on smaller niche's and offer viral content that relates to their interest. Smaller crowds makes Monetization even better.

You should have some new idea... think about it few days and start something completely new, don't copy... Invest money in your idea and maybe one day your site will be even better than buzzfeed

If you have a team you can do it, I have a website like that, but problem with these kind of site if you do not update content on daily basis ( read) atleast 4-5 intially or you are gonna lose traffic, also if you have big pages in facebook, you can get decent amount of traffic for starter, then you need to work on branding but definitely you need a good team of content writers as well as developers and SEO/SMM guy
