I just used Traffic Travis to look at some keywords for a new niche I am investigating.

I found an exact search keyword with 110,000 monthly searches which is perfect for my niche.

Traffic travis says this keyword is 'relatively easy'. This looks like a great opportunity.

However how much can you trust Traffic Travis? Most of the sites in the top ten have thousands of backlinks. However they don't appear to have good onsite SEO for the keywords - not in h1 tags description title etc...

Is there a floor in traffic travis whereby sites with poor onsite seo for a term are not given as much credit as they deserve? My gut feeling is they would be hard to outrank due to the number of backlinks...

Anyone have any other good tools for checking how hard a keyword would be to rank for?

Also, sites with loads of backlinks but poor onsite seo for a keyword - are they beatable with perfect onsite SEO and a few links?

    Thanks!

There are a bunch of factors to put into consideration. How many backlinks are pointing to the pages you want to outrank? What is the age and PR of your site and your competitors'? Are any of the top sites authority sites (like wiki, answers, about) and etc...

How about a SS of Traffic Travis so we can better judge?

Yes, it is possible. EMD available?
I have seen many EMD micro niche sites ranking well with good on-site SEO outranking authority sites which is poor in on-site SEO.

    great idea astroke.

not sure how to put a picture into this post though. Do i have to upload it somewhere else and insert the URL?

Basically all the competitors have loads of backlinks.

3 sites in the top twenty have less than 500 total to all pages with less than 100 to the specific page. But the rest have 10's or hundreds of thousands of backlinks.

Some PR 6 ,7 etc sites in there too.

However, out of the top 20 sites only one has the keyword in the title and description and one in the description only . the rest don't have it anywhere.

I think this is a really hard keyword to rank for despite the competitors targeting it in there on page SEO. Maybe the relatively easy from TT is just a mistake.

Buy it, rank it then come back here with your progress so we can better help you.

    There are too many factors.

If I were you, I would register the .com domain and start working ;) It's a keyword with 110,000 exact monthly searches so even if you rank #10, you can get some decent traffic!

I will even wait for a year patiently building backlinks to reach first page if the niche is highly profitable..I'm sure there many long tail keywords to target so I suggest you to build an authority site. Trust me even if you don't rank for the main keyword, you will rank for many long tail keywords giving you consistent traffic and earnings.

load a few of those sites up into seo spyglass and it will give you a good feel for what your competitors backlink profile looks like... what anchors, PR and whatnot. I believe seo spyglass is shared on here somewhere...

Sounds like you can probably do it if you got some experience.
Curious, how many results come up as found for your phrase in Google.

SEO is my Forte. I outrank amazon and wiki often with a good domain, on site SEO is a must. Good anchor text in my backlinks by building about 250 article backlinks and then find high quality backlinks from sites with some decent PR and age.

You may not hit #1 right off but if you hit first page shoot me a PM and I'll help you get to the top three.

    Peace,
    GlobalP

Yeah just upload it to imageshack or something.

From what you explained, it does seem tough, but like everyone else is saying, there are a bunch of factors to consider. Try it out and see. If you have the tools, you won't need to spend any money and the worst thing that can happen is wasting your time. 110k exact searches is definitely worth shooting for.

For the articles, do you use 250 separate, unique domains, or do you e.g. post 10 to ezines, 20 to xyz, etc.?

This must be broad search and not exact or something, or maybe a brand name. Remember, there has to be a valid reason why someone didn't register it already.

there is no way that it would not work, but I recommend you to check first the rank ad value of the keywords first > I have search by "how to check keyword ranking" in google and I found lots of online services and tools as well there you should have a look on it.

Make sure it was an exact search because it seems almost too good to be true.

If it is 110k exacts and the emd is available you may have hit the jackpot.

OK so here is the Traffic Travis Screeen shot. As you can see I am up against a whole mountain of backlinks but virtually no on-site SEO for this specific keyword. Maybe they are all optimised for a very similar keyword? To me this looks very hard but to traffic travis its 'relatively easy'.

Having recently got to page one for a few medium competition keywords very easily this looks like a good opportunity. However I have a feeling it should say relativity fucking impossible.

And sorry I was wrong about EMD .com but there are plenty of easy ways to include the kw which would sound ok. like keyworddirect dot com or keyword site dot com etc.

    Broad search 1,500,000
    "Phrase" 550,000
    [Exact] 110,000

Oh and people are paying around $0.80 per click for this keyword according to google keyword tool.
I'll probably just buy the domain stick some content on it and start backlinking.

Could make some money in a few years!

110K exact searches and EMD com available? I dont think there is any doubt to whether you should go into it or not.

As far as traffic travis, it showed me relatively easy for two different keywords, one was a shitty keyword which is easy to rank, other was a health condition name with competition like webmd, medicinenet, and bunch of edu and gov domains. So im clueless on how it determines the levels.
