Moreover is it possible to book a .us domain from outside the US?
You will fall into legal trouble. They can seize the domain if you are not a US Citizen. Never seen a US domain on top of SERPs. Rather go with .info xD
All .us domains will do is target you to the US geographic (less relevant in other countries).
But in google WT you can change this for any top level domain though via Site settings
My target audience is US users only. But I don't want to get into legal issues, so you suggest that I should keep away from .us domains? The problem is that the domain I want to buy has all .com,.net,.info bought out
Do you suggest putting some number like say 2011 behind the keyword can serve the purpose or will it require too much effort on SEO part to rank it?
Try adding a x or some letter like that instead. Search engines should have an automatic spellcheck and see your domain as the keyword.
so if it were http://mydomainx.com
Search engines would still see it as http://mydomain.com
I've never had the chance to test that out personally, but I learned that tip from an official SEO publication a while back so id take their word over those flyby WSO SEO guides.
