Hi all,

I am trying to get a feel for how long it takes (on avg.) to build a WP site.

I saw a post yesterday where someone claimed he could build a WP site in 30 mins.

S/he claimed custom theme, plugins (all in seo configuration, contact form, etc)....all in 30 mins.

Is this a bunch of Crap....or no?

It is not, but once again, it totally depends on the scope of your project.

If you are 100% and i mean 100% sure of every tiny little detail you want for your site, it should not take too long.

However, gathering the pictures, the information and all of the other resources will definitely take some good amount of time.

All in all, if you want to build a landing page it won't take you longer than an hour, but if you are into building a large web, it will take you a GOOD while, from hours to days or even longer

To be honest if I have the articles ready to go and it's just a case of copying/pasting them in I can do a full site in about 15-20 minutes that is completly unique from the previous one I built.

At random I select a theme, make sure its looking good, install some plugins quickly and its good to go.

Sometimes they have additional pages like a contact / terms / privacy sometimes not. Sometimes they have 1 site map plugin, sometimes they use a different one, sometimes no sitemap at all.

Some have social bookmark sharing, some have social network sharing, some have both, some have none.

You get the idea :)

Once you've done it like a gazzzilllion times its like tieing your shoes.

It depends on how large you want the wordpress site to be. Is it going to be a mini site or an authority site with loads of posts? It then again depends on the plugins you add and if you going to custom set all of them or leave them to default?

I personally build a very simple wordpress site in less than 10 minutes.

Hope this helped.

I can throw up a reasonably good looking site in half a day...but that includes writing the content, making sure on page seo is good all meta and alt tags etc. That time would include searching for photos and doing my own logos etc.

If I had content ready to copy/paste---graphics/logos etc ready to insert---a list of the exact plugins I was going to use and there settings known in advance then yes I could have that done in under an hour.

At the moment I am working on a big site that has to look great with no compromise. Ive put 2 weeks into layout/design/graphics...Logos and some slight revisions still need to be done. I put at least a month into writing and editing copy and will spent the next few weeks building up the social part of the site.

So 30 minutes can be done....most of a day for a good looking site...after that you can spend as long as you need.

Yeah, totally possible to have a good looking blog in just 15 minutes if you know what your doing!

I can create and setup a generic skeleton WP site - complete with plugins, theme, etc. in 10 minutes. It's the customization and content creation that takes time.
