I tried YouTube for a month with NO success at all. Not a penny. Starting to feel like a waste of time..

Anyways, before I decide to give it another go and go hard on YouTube I was just curious about the ads before the video.. and during the video.. it just doesn't seem clear how you earn with YouTube, Adsense on videos, and Partner program.

I understand PPD and this thread is not about PDP tho. I'm really curious on the ads part of YT and the Partner Program.

There is an option to enable monitization... is that the adsense part of YT? And you ONLY earn money if someone clicks the little tiny add that displays in the middle of the video?

    How do partners earn money?

What about the ad before every video that YT makes you watch a few seconds of?

Hoping someone can clear this all up for me and I'm sure other YouTubeNoobies would find this helpful as well.

    Thanks

I just started a journey to help others out with my journey. Hopefully that can give you ideas.

But as for your questions, Ads come with monetization and adsense partnership. Post a video, Apply for adsense. Its that simple. As for the type of ads, it all depends on your niche. Youtube will match what is appropriate. As for the ads before a video, thats a trueview ad. The non-skippable ones are standard instream ads.

Networks usually have advertisers run ads via pre roll and post roll on videos partnered under them. As for YouTube you get paid for Adsense clicks, and they dropped their earnings on pre roll and post roll. It used to be $0.01 per pre roll 30 second ad, now it is more like $0.000001. As for the rest of the ad types, it is like Adsense, someone needs to click the ad for you to make the $0.01.

I disagree. Pre-roll videos ads will go for on average .03-.07 cents per view. It qualifies as a view after 15 seconds of the ad being displayed. On average, my videos do .05-.06 cents per view.

therage is correct that there are alot of other ad types and it is exactly like adsense for a website. The rich text ads generally pay the most and I've seen anywhere from .14 cents to 2.00 per ad here. Text ads pay .08-.20 cents per click. Keep in mind these are general numbers and will change with ad types, season, niche and how much money is going around in ad revenue.

    Thanks for the help.

You have to be a partner to earn for the pre roll ads (the non skippalbe) ones right? Cause I've got a personal account that I made a few years ago and just had 1 video up.. didn't promote it or nothing.. and have like 500 views.. but I don't see any earnings for it.
