How effective is cold emailing?

Is it cold emailing a viable way to acquire new customers, or is it too risky? I'm talking mass cold emailing to say 50000 people.

That's what i figured. Seems mostly like a risky way at best to annoy tons of people and at worst get charged for spam

Well it probably still works somehow cuz the amount of spam I get daily is overwhelming. It's not cheap sending that many emails, so there gotta be some ROI
 
If it's just random 50k addresses, than probably not that effective :/
You should figure out, how you gonna find the target audience for that, maybe in that case it'll be more promising.
 
I don't think it will work in recent times as most of the mailing servers filter the content and send our emails to Spam. You need to be very careful while using the words and attract people to respond to you.

cold emailing is still effective but your success rate will depend on multiple vectors like how the emails were obtained, what kind of email you are sending, the Inbox-rate and much more.

simply sending an email to random 50K people won't be helpful though.
