How easy is this going to be to rank??

I just registered an EMD (.net) and it has 15k+ monthly searches. The person who is ranked #1 for the keyword has ZERO backlinks according to ahrefs.com

If I get some good content loaded up on it, how easy is it going to be to rank?

First you should know, that you can never garantee that even if you are doing everything correctly you end up getting in the top of page 1.
BUT, you should have a good chance at it, if you follows all the general guidelines of seo and so on..

That being said, if your EMD domain has 15000+ exact match searches per month and your competition has 0 back links, then you have a decent shot.
But if you have a article site with 5 articles, and the site you try compete with have a huge site full of unique high quality relevant content, then your fucked backlinks or no backlinks..

One of the biggest things in the fight for top position, is to choose your battles ;-)

But if your on a level playing field, then go for it. You should have a great chance!

Just give it a shot. You might surprise yourself with how easy it is or not...

Thanks for the comments guys. The site that is ranked #1 with this keyword (the EMD) only has a Landing page with a couple paragraphs.

I say go for it. EMDs are still very powerful even after the recent updates. I see them constantly on top of the serps for low to medium competition keywords.

That is not necessarily true. I have seen garbage looking sites ranking high up in the serps with only one page of content. And the other good looking sites with quality content below it. Happens all the time. It's ultimately all about the offsite seo.

My advice is do your research and learn SEO thoroughly. Because it's not all just about content. I'm outranking an authority figure in my niche and he has great quality unique content. I do not have as much content on my site as him, yet i'm outranking the sucker. I like him though he gives great advice.

You will know how easy it's going to be when you start to create backlinks and having in mind the results obtained and backlinks you created you will know how much works is needed.
