Not to sound cheesy but does this not look like an easy way for us to get them to pay all our VAT...

Edit: OP is uneducated

They're definitely paying that VAT from our pocket, not theirs. If some overseas seller won't be collecting VAT himself at the checkout then you'll be paying it in your home country once the parcel arrives. But for marketplaces like AliExpress I think it's now mandatory to collect VAT.

The main thing that has changed is cheap parcels are no longer excluded from tax. In the past, if your order was under 22eur you didn't need to pay VAT.

Don't think it will be that much of a drama if you think about how many boxes can cross borders every day on big european countries.
Even with the previous limit regarding VAT I've never got problems nor heard of any family or friend having them.

Thanks for the info guys, really did shake up myself and the partner lol

Thanks Davids

This.

At the same time this probably means increasing shipping times too due to custom processing, because every package needs to go through this process now, not just a few.

So in essence I'm a day late to low budget drop-shipping lol

In Germany, or rather Europe, the customs reform comes into effect today. A hardship for most Aliexpress dropshippers & co. The new customs reform means that everything worth more than 0€ and coming from a non-EU country has to be taxed, customs & taxes are now passed on to sellers, and parcel service providers from Germany have to charge customers 6€ for every non-EU order. For some a victory, for some a downfall!

So for reshipping... I was planning once I get my product matched up to send different parts to a repackager of some sort, does that mean another round of fees?

Your point of contact is always a customs lawyer or the local customs office itself. Unfortunately, I cannot answer your question.
