As the title, how do you test the impact of an external link on keywords when you create many backlinks at the same time?

when I want to test this, I pick a stupid keyword, then go to page 7 or 8 in google search result, and pick a page that I can tell there is hardly any seo work on it. i create the backlink and then track the result over the next month. if it improves, then it is a solid link, if not, then I forget it.

Thanks for your share.
But I'm in a dilemma. I need to increase my site's referring domains, so I create 1 backlink in 1 domain. And I have a main page that needs optimization, so I create a number of backlinks to the page at the same time.
How can I test the external link's quality in this situation?

if you really want to track cause and effect of your activities, I suggest to first focus on on-page optimization. it will take you a 1-2 month to fine tune your adjustments. once you got that figured, then restart your link building activities.

I note down my last few days positioning and if I see any spike in my positioning within the next 10-15 days after the backlinks, hence proved. :)

Testing in separate pages can give you a better idea, but still, it won't be that much accurate if you're testing a bunch of them,
so, it's better to test with different websites if it's possible or go with once at a time

This is what Digitty was doing to test his PBNs back in the days. Truth to be told is still soo "it depends" that is mostly waste of time in my opinion - way too many factors, and you cannot have any conclusive result. Diggity made test with PBNs that previously get him "toxic" result a month later for other keywords and 50% of them was working just fine. So what I do is just be careful with the sites I am getting links from, and hope for the best lol.

i do remember that blog post and his tests. yes, you are right about the outcomes he received. oh well, it is all a crapshoot

here is his test: https://diggitymarketing.com/how-to-test-your-pbns/

I also noticed that Google only counts the first link in a page's <body> tag

You have to create backlinks on live sites. According to my manual backlinks experience. If I create backlinks from sites indexed by google. That's better than me sending 1 million backlinks to my website
