Like most people I initially joined Twitter out of pure curiosity. In fact for about 6 months I mocked people with "Who cares if someone is going to the shops, why would you tweet that?"

How little did I know at the time!

But how do YOU see the future of Twitter? Do you think it'll evolve?
Do you think it'll totally die out and if so how long do you see Twitter lasting?

Like any social networking sites, they get popular now...but soon it'll die down. Just like how everyone migrated from myspace -> facebook but now its facebook -> twitter.

Just my opinion though lol all my friends use twitter now, most of them deleted their facebook

That's the thing though - it hasn't gone from Facebook > Twitter.

People generally use Facebook for people they know and people generally use Twitter for people they know and don't know. They're used for 2 different reasons.

It will most likely continue to grow and constantly evolve until something better comes along. Not networks like Instagram or Vine, but another microblogging site that has similar yet better features. Then it will either adapt and prosper or die.

Depends on age! Most old folks use facebook just for an update on family members, but people in their teens are on twitter. Just how I see it lol

What attracts me in Twitter is anonymity and the simplicity of connecting with people you dont know.
I believe, that people behind Twitter understand that as well, so its only logical to continue in that direction.

Facebook in that sense choose a less lucrative niche - connecting with people you already know. For these I have a phone, email and other bunch of hi tech inventions, so Facebook isn't really necessary.

Twitter is going to cater towards a platform to connect artists, actors, musicians, and companies with clients/the general public. It's method of monetization has been transforming rapidly over the past two years alone.

Assuming that google and other search engines are leaning more heavily toward social signals -- and I do believe they will -- then twitter will be a major beneficiary. I'm not suggesting links will not remain important but it appears that social is destined to have a growing role in search and those that recognize that now and incorporate that aspect into their plans will be ahead of the curve.

It's good to be ahead of the curve. And, if your wrong not big deal.

Hey ScreamingMidget, great talking to you via PM :)

As for the topic discussion, like many have said, more and more people from Facebook are migrating to Twitter for 2 reasons,

One: the older generations are starting to use Facebook more, meaning teenagers are getting less privacy (don't ask me why when they can always block certain stuff to not let their parents see naughty stuff)

Two: Twitter is implementing some kind of media interaction web base that sort of acts like a mini community. It was an article I read somewhere, but basically you can expect more users interactions within that medium group, sort of like Google circle. (not to that extreme or course)

And of course, Twitter may be going IPO in the future, so that's always a good sign.

As much as I HATE social networks, and find lanci's perspective on this subject very interesting and curious, I think that this is a more culture related thing.
In my country Twitter has no expression, no one uses it, it is something many people heard of, but they just don't use it. On the other hand, FB is viral! Everyone, I mean everyone has a FB account, people love that shit! :( Don't ask me why, because I hate it and I don't log in my FB account for a long time. But generally I guess that it's because people LOVE to see what their friends or acquaintances are doing, if they broke up, if they lost their jobs, people love to know other peoples lives, specially the bad stuff in other peoples lives. On the other hand, people that expose themselves stupidly in FB, they do it because(besides getting sex) they love being envied by others, for the new car they bought, for the trip they had, for the new house they moved in to, for the new clothes they bought(mostly girls), etc. So IMHO the visual element is very important. This things are part of the human nature, but they surely are more present or predominant in some cultures.
So I don't think that FB is going anywhere in a near future, and will eventually be replaced for something similar to it self, rather than something like Twitter.
How twitter may change or improve? Maybe be a little more like FB?

FYI Twitter's IPO will be happening very shortly. Soon, things will be changing dramatically, even now, things are starting to change.

I love Twitter, and I don't think I'd every stray away from it. I never thought this about Facebook as I knew this wouldn't last long.

    My two cents.

Twitter is how the world communicates. It is how people get real time news and talk about real time events. You need to have your product streamlined into this media

I quit thinking that twitter may die when I was working at a local news site and I saw that twitter is the main source for breaking news. And that's because it is much more easier to post a tweet rather then open your facebook app (it takes you so much damn time!) and post a status. Also, twitter won't die because he has no specific algorithm for you general feed, so you can be sure you will not miss a single tweet of the people you follow.
On the other hand - twitter is not as much popular as facebook, but that's a factor that depends on the country you live in.
