I have a niche site up and getting a decent amount of organic traffic to one page. However, 95% of my visitors are dropping off on that page. I'm making pennies off of Adsense, but feel like I could be making a lot more if so many people didn't leave. I have about 20 pages of content, but most people only see the first page then leave.

Looking at it closer, it seems like I'm overloading it with ads (about 6 ads on page). I also have a social content locker on the page. I guess what I'm looking for is advice or an example of what a profitable niche page should look like. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

    1. Have action buttons that lead to other pages or posts, get people engaged.
    2. Funnel your traffic, don't just send them to the main page, try to diversify.
    3. Less ads on the page, 6 per page seems a bit excessive.
    4. What is your page about? are you providing relevant content?
    5. what does analytics say? is this just bot traffic or organic?

You answered yourself. Social content locker (traffic killer if content isn't worth it. Never use it if you have organic traffic). 6 ads -> too many. If you want to get social signals, better use a hidden clickjacker, not a social locker.

Just looked up clickjackers, never knew they existed. Do you have any you would recommend?

There is one I've successfully used in the past, but for some reason it's sales page (domain) isn't working, I guess it got suspened. There also is/was a service offered here, but it was more expensive and used popups (so it wasn't invisible).

How about a video about your niche on the front page?
Lots of people prefer to click a button and watch rather than read... If it is good they will be curious to see more of your page.
Just my opinion, guess i am just lazy :)

I would reduce the ads down a bit. Add more relevant content to the search terms. Add a Table of contents if one is not there.

Like what Sasha said, I put action buttons to lead users to other pages and get them engaged. And I agree with others, lighten up on the ads.

Try to be more creative in designing your page and in working on the layout of your page. Putting a high quality video related to your niche on your home page can also help you keep your visitors. Also, try your best to make your visitors be engaged in what you are trying to promote.

This is all very true. The other thing you can do is capture email addresses, set up an auto-responder, and send users back to your site via email. Depends on how you monetize, but if the content is good enough this method will work.
