How do you record from your HDTV to your PC?

I want to make recordings from my HDTV to my PC. Can someone point in me in the right direction so I can do this?

yes you need a tuner card but also some great free software for making your pc into a tivo

I baught a cheap tuner to do this to one of my computers but is sitting on the back burner for now let me know if you get it up and going and what you think.
