Let's say I have a blog and I want it to appear on top of SERP for a specific branded keyword, doesn't matter if the homepage or a post/page get ranked.

And since it's a brand name, keyword competition is very low.

So how do I rank the blog for only that kw without being suspicious?

Do I build exact-match anchor text backlinks to the homepage or to post/page? Would that appear as spammy?

Should I keep publishing articles, put that branded keyword inside and build links to them?
I would appreciate any suggestion.

1 - DO NOT USE only 1 anchor. 20-30% keyword anchor, 70-80% general anchor like "click here" or simple URL
2 - I will not recommend to use keyword as domain. You would probably rank faster but can catch a filter because of it

Already answered above^^ for best practice. If you try to set up a brand name and like to ranking by brand name.
Just build some backlinks using brand name anchor text. You can use the brand anchor for both the home page and internal subpages.
But make sure don't overuse it. Keep brand name anchor below 10%.

I ranked an EMD + exact match anchor to home page.
It works but make sure to dilute your anchor text ratio.

1 link wouldn't hurt if your anchor text ratio is decent.

Go for
90% naked url/generic anchors
5% keywords
5% branded/Exact match to be safe

Make sure to have content on your front page for maximum result. (Long form, on-page done)

Is it your brand or someone else's?

I found a deindexed website (spam penalty) and the owner abandoned it months ago. Knowing what he did with the site, there's no reviving it.
The website name still has some monthly search, I plan to replicate the site with a similar domain and better content.

Don't use the same anchor for every backlink. Use related keywords also.

Use secondary keywords, too. You can try LSI graph for this one. As for me, I use 1% keyword density at all times. I avoid overstuffing.
