    Hi guys,

Today I've realized it's so important to have an antivirus on my PC so I thought before to do that It's more good to ask first.

How do you guys protect and keep the passwords and account safe? Currently I have some important accounts and paypal to my yahoo mail and that's pretty scary.

    Thanks

Microsoft Security Essentials is hands down the best free AV software to Windows. And quite frankly there is no sense in paying for AV software anyways.

What comes to keeping your passwords safe --- well, all I know is don't ask me. I just have heaps of txt files here, there and everywhere containing my passwords.
I've just been lucky never losing anything out.

There is no way, any hacker can make his virus FUD, to get passed all anti virus hence the FULLY undetectable part maybe malware bytes and avg together can help.

Lol, that wont work, hackers use viruses to log you login into paypal or other things, so that doesn't work.

Yes. I already have an aglorythm the problem is I have all passwords stuffed in mozilla and whenever Im gonna login there it just fills the password but if I get an keylogger or a fckin shit virus... I'm over. I think I will make an algorythm for very important accounts (like paypal, main email etc.) and I will delete them from mozilla. :D

    Thanks guys.

keep your sensitive data offline, it can be a piece of paper, your head or a computer which is never connected to the internet

honestly the key is never never never never download from an untrusted source. in the IT world of today, 99% of the problems are user generated. people click the 'Yes' or 'Okay' or 'I accept' button way to often.

    learn to distrust absolutely everything

Not bad ziplack, but viruses log what you type, so when you go to type in your password, it logs it. My a i m is puzzle if you need any info.

I used MSE last summer and it worked well... until a cutting edge virus that was known got past it and my work computer got f$@(ed. I will never use MSE again personally.

I use Avast now with Comodo.

    Comodo is where it's at!

    Zonealarm. (lock the host file)
    AVG free.
    Spybot to lock the registry.
Turn of cookies in general. You don't need them to surf.
Use NoScript to turn of JavaScript. If you can, get rid of flash too as it is a known hazard.
Some advise to use Ghostery but I didn't check it out yet. One of my Guru's swears by it though.
Use multiple email accounts and make them private if you can. You need them to separate friends, spammers, business.
Check you computer on a regular basis and backup all data. (Your hard disk just might crash...)

Just a few thoughts, hope it helps. :)

Personally I don't even run Windows outside of VM. Okay, I lied a bit - just today I had to boot up my W7 installation to play Burnout Paradise since my internet connection was down after the storm - but otherwise strictly OSX and all my Windows needs via VM.

I think the only time I've even had a virus, was when I (even against my own warnings) went and opened a suspicious rar file - and boom. After that nothing, not even on Windows.

edit. About the password strength... xkcd.c0m/936/ (sorry, can't post the direct picture)
