I am not using them and the site will not get passed 151. Now granted, for about 3 weeks, the on page was a mess, I have rebuilt the site from scratch with very strong on page. That was this week. I have 2 questions.

    01) How can one tell if they have a penalty if they are not using GWT?
    02) If you get a message about unnatural linking is that there way of saying you have a penalty? (I did not get this obviously not wondering for my own knowledge)

I built a lot of links with GSA & Article Samurai while the site was under a month old. Going to ride out another 3 weeks to see if the on page helps, keep adding new content and see if we can get past 151. The keyword should be fairly easy and I have an EMD (but with a dash in it and it is .net).

    Thanks in advance.

If you get a waning from G about unnatural link building your site will be penalized 3-4 weeks later and it will drop like a stone.

But that is fixable I think.

Some factors that you should consider:

If you have too many backlinks with the same anchor text pointing to one URL, you will be penalized by the Penguin which is URL specific penalty. The rest of your site should rank normally.

If the rankings of your whole site drop, this is Panda. That means your onpage content is not good. Use unique quality articles, hand written, no spun and duplicate content.

What you can do is add different anchors from different sources, use raw links and generic keywords + long tail keywords. Diversify as much as you can your backlinks. Make your main keywords 10-20% of the total backlinks, try to delete all unnatural looking links, like from linkfarms, blog networks or from anything that uses spun unreadable content.

Add your site to GWT to check if you really have this message, then send a reconsideration request. You can send that request even if you don't have any warnings but you still think that your site is not ranking as it should be ranking.

Hi and thanks for the response. The site was for a carpentry practice and I used a template I bought and then customized it (however I didnt install yoast and did not handle the on page really well). When I rebuilt the site I used elegant themes and that has the on page built in. I have put up several super spun articles with pictures.

The site has never dropped (it dances from between 151 - 380) but it never gets higher then 151. Luckily I use tools like Article Samurai, GSA (highly customized based on the thread) and LWB so I do not have these super spammy links like (linkfarms & blog networks).

I am hoping that google hated the on page and that when the bot comes by and sees all the changes I made I will rank higher. I am sure this next point is worthless but I am ranking 6 for my term on yahoo and bing. So if it doenst drop like a stone I can assume I just need to do more link building? It has only been 2 days since I rebuilt the site from scratch.
