I have found several domains that have a clean history and a few backlinks each. Nothing spectacular really, most of the links are web 2.0. They are not exactly in my niche, but related, like golf ball - golf course. Now I'm wondering, do you have a rule of thumb or anything by which you decide if a scraped domain is actually worth registering? I'm not asking how to find out if they are clean or not, what I mean is, how do you judge at what point the link juice from a scraped domain is worth more than the costs of registering it and the time to set it up. I don't want to sound cheap, but if I register say 100 domains, that would add-up to a nice little sum. Obviously I could boost the scraped domains with 2nd and 3rd tier links, but that would delute the natural looking link structure that I'm aiming for in the first place.

No one can you tell what the link juice from a scraped domain is "worth" but you should try to get domains with at least 10+ RD that will give you nice little bit of link juice. Best thing to do is to start with like 10 PBN sites and see where that brings you, then you can continue making more PBN sites to get the rankings that you want. And I wouldnt recommend boosting the domains with tier 2 unless you really know what ur doing :)

Judge by quality of links and quality of content which was posted on that domain. Use archive.org to check that out :)

Don't start with building your PBN if you do not have a budget for it.

Ideally, start with a few domains to get your feet wet. And also, I can assure you, that what you consider clean is in 80% of the cases (at least), not clean at all. Unless you can scrape at the very least tens of thousands of domains a month, then you will have hard time to find at least anything usable.

You can read more about the metrics here - https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/c...osts-metrics-spam-and-niche-relevancy.916518/

Whether the domain is worth it or not depend on your personal preference. Whatever brings you a decent ROI. Some people like to use, let's say 20x RD20+ domains, others prefer 5x RD300. Whatever suits you better. If you can rank, then it really doesn't matter. Choose your preferred approach and take it from there.
